theres hundreds of threads about venture, if u search the archives u will find them, they are very long!

nicnack2 · 02/07/2006 21:30

my friend used then and she is still paying it off. she said about 800 pound for ten photos!!!i thought of then but once i got the price list no chance

edam · 02/07/2006 21:37

They wanted to charge my sister the best part of a grand.

LIZS · 02/07/2006 21:37

A single desktop photo is supposeed to cost about £125 (you often get a voucher for one "free" if you buy a session on offer for about £35 !). A triple mounted set starts at about £850 and upwards !

Xena · 02/07/2006 21:38

I don't have that much to spend on photos.

Don't go there!!!!!

Flamesparrow · 02/07/2006 21:41

Don't do it! Beautiful photos but came out in tears because I wasn't spending my life paying for photos

MerlinsBeard · 02/07/2006 21:43

flame u can do the same with some practise with a digi cam and photoshop

Flamesparrow · 02/07/2006 21:45

Yup - we just need to get round to doing them

Angeliz · 02/07/2006 21:48

Some of their pictures do seem lovely but i think if you can take nice natural photos of your own children with a digital camera, then it's just daft (if you haven't got it) to spend SO much on pics.

We had a gorgeous picture of dd1 when she was about 1. Just standing next to her toybox. We took it to a printures and did some fiddling and got it poster size. It's still up in my bedroom.

If you have the money though, they do seem lovely.

Flamesparrow · 02/07/2006 21:50

We had loads of different photos done of DD (none as pricey as venture), but my favourite one is still one that DH took one day of her laying on the sofa watching tv when she was sleepy.

We had a really disappointing experience with Venture a couple of years ago (posted about it on another thread at the time). Hopefully their photographers' social skills have improved since, but their prices are still ridiculous. Essentially, they're a sales organisation. We found a local photographer in the Yellow Pages instead; a fraction of the cost and we were really happy with the results.

WideWebWitch · 02/07/2006 23:01

Oh god, don't do it, they're very highly priced, give you a hard sell, terrible imo.

Blondilocks · 02/07/2006 23:03

OH has a picture of LO done by venture. They did do funky, non traditional pictures, but tbh I don't see what's so great about the actual picture quality. I think he could have done some better ones himself.

Mind you they did capture some great unposed photos.

sparklemagic · 02/07/2006 23:15

we had a good experience! The actual session was great, photographer lovely with DS and we took along loads of his favourite toys and the photographer managed to get some shots that really captured our DS and us as a family.

I really enjoyed the session where you look at the photos too - sat down with a coffee and looked at a posh presentation of gorgeous photos of my DS, what's not to like!

I did go in with a clear idea of what I wanted and I didn't experience a hard sell at all - having said that I could certainly have spent a grand on photos! I ended up spending about £250 which IS outrageous but it was a once only thing for us and I never felt cheated iykwim - was so pleased with the shots and with the quality of the frames. Still sometimes think of a couple of the photos that I didn't take as couldn't afford it!

snuffy143 · 02/07/2006 23:30

Good friends (with unlimited finances, it seems!) have had 2 sessions with Venture and really good photos. They are about to go for a third time as apparently they 'do it' every two years. Never heard about the prices but can only imagine £££££££! Really good photos. We had a package from Olan Mills who have gone much trendier and got brilliant pics of DD and DS plus ones for family for £100.

fattiemumma · 02/07/2006 23:54

i have had 2 sets of absolutly beautifull pics from Venture.
the first set i had a 9 pic multi thingy in a frame...cost me over £900. then i had a couple of 10x12's...they were about £150 each.

i have since seen the local photo shop..just the little one in town who does them and they look EXCACTLY THE SAME.

my kids are as beautifull in the ones i take as the ones they took...ok i dont have all the close up stuff but i could have if i bought a better camara..and it would cost FAR less than what the Venture pics cost me.

i woudlnt go back...though the pictures and customer care i received was all top class i must say

hunkermunker · 03/07/2006 00:30

Fuck, can't you just remembed what they look like when they grin or something? Much cheaper!

mum2lovely2 · 03/07/2006 02:46

We had a free photo session with Venture and it was fun, messing around to our favourite music with ds and dd. When we went to view the photos they did a nice presentation and we picked out some that we liked. It was only then that they told us the price . We were too proud to say that we couldn't afford them but when we got home we phoned them to say that we wanted to revise our order (to something more affordable). Even then we felt like we had been conned. We felt that their approach was very cynical and aimed at avoiding all mention of the cost until we had chosen the photos. If they had told us the prices before we had the viewing we wouldn't have bothered. Luckily they phoned us a month later to say they had lost our photos and did we want to arrange another session. We did not.
