Need inspiration for new bathroom ..

We have had a water leak and the plumber had to rip our en suite bathroom virtually out to find it, so am on emergency bathroom replacement duty. I have found the suite/shower etc, but am completely stumped re floor/walls and colour.
It will need to look upmarket ish and modernish for future house resale, but don't want to spend £5k on floor and walls. Have always been boring and plumped for white and blue before - should I go for limestoney colours or are they very 2004 - don't want this bathroom to date too much?
It is a typical small ensuite with bath, shower against one wall - I am going to tile a MDF board instead of having a bath panel - 2 basins and a loo opposite. Should I just go for white again? yawn.

have a look at the farrow and ball colours for inspiration and if they are to expensive good independent paint retailers can match the colurs.
i have dix blue in my bathrooms on the walls with white mosaic tiling. my old house had the same colour in the bathrroms and the new buyers loved it.

why not go for a wet room. completly tiled no need for shower enclouser. i like the lime stone colours for the tiles and maybe a glass sink that comes form the wall to create the ullsion of space.

god i watch to much home improvement shows

The plumber has vetoed a wetroom upstairs, it gets complicated trying to re do all the floor boards so they slope, on a suspended ceiling, apparantly.
We had blue above the dado rail, with large white tiles and pale blue mosaic borders in our last house, am trying desperately not to rever to that - a bit like ordering the same thing in a restuarant!

What is the rest of your house like? it needs to flow.

MrsBadger · 02/07/2006 21:31

if period house, T&G is worth a bash, but otherwise limestoney is the way to go.
Would avoid glass sinks though - real pain to keep clean.

milge · 02/07/2006 21:37

I agree re glass sinks - have gone for undersunk basins. Just need to decide on the counter - am thinking dark wood if I go for limestone or white granite if I go for blue/white, but am also toying with using the same tiles for the counter. Aarrgh.
The house is 10 years old, classic new build decoration, taupe carpets and cream walls.

I'd stick to white and have beautiful fittings.

Doesn't have to be boring, really depends on how you dress it.

Good for resale.

MrsBadger · 02/07/2006 21:41

not sure tiled counter is good idea - grout gets grubbier than on walls.

love idea of dark wood counter with limestone or even with white, though prob not w blue.
ooh - dark wood counter and dark wood floor? (wood floor allowable in a no-kids bathroom as no excessive splashing)

milge · 02/07/2006 21:44

kids do use the bathroom - they like piling into the bath with dh if he is home in time, and there is plenty of splashing - would look great, I agree Mrs B, but impractical.

Seen a fair few bathrooms recently and if you plan to resell go for simple, clean and fresh looking. Fully tiled, neutral - white or cream - with a hint of colour if you must, like a few rows of mosaic in natural stone or blue/green or a textured border tile, with a light vinyl or tiled floor.

go natural and then accessorize, i have been buying some mags like ideal homes and house beautiful and at the mo they have a lot of bathroom/kitchen makeovers
