Can anyone please explain to me the point of a raspberry pi. I've seen them on amazon and it looks great but is it something an 8 year old would be able to benefit from without loads of help?

Hmm, it's something my soon to be 38 year old DH benefits from. He even got to build Lego housing for it from my DS's toy cupboard.

Sorry that's not much help. Someone better informed will doubtless be along soon. Smile

38 and 8 year olds are quite similar aren't they?

Anyone else know anything?

It's something that an interested 8 year old who is into tech stuff could probably manage on their own or with a bit of help. It's meant to be quite simple, and is aimed at children. You can program it in Scratch which is a visual programming tool designed for KS2 children, or in Python which is a bit more advanced.

You can get lots of extras to make lots of cool projects - PC Pro have some good examples of what you can do.

My dh has one too. I think an 8 year old would need help to set it up initially. You can get an sd card for it that already has scratch on to make things easier.
