Hello,

just found out I am pregnant, already have one dd, and dh has 2 children who stay at weekends, so looks like we need an mpv.

We could only afford a 2nd hand one, probably up to about £5000. Can anyone recommend any? I like the idea of ones that look like an estate car but have seats in the back that you can take out. No Idea what makes there are.

Thank you in advance.

peugot does an estate looking one with two extra seats in the boot - but don't know which model it is. friend has just bought one and is quite happy with it but they only use/need extra seats very occasionally.

i have a zafira but don't need the extra seats regularly. They are pretty easy to set up.

I do loose my boot space if the extra seats go up and have to balance the buggy in - though the floor space on the back seat (reg 3 seats) is huge and as I only have car seats on these seats I can use this space too.

As you are going to need the extra seats regularly - I guess putting these up is going to be a priority, i.e. ones with less fuss to assemble and the amount of boot/storage space as well with 4 children to carted around.

We've just bought a Honda Shuttle, 2nd hand for £2000, automatic, high mileage (over 100,000). DH just went to Germany with it and it worked fine.

Dh is selling his toyota landcruiser as we have all moved to usa so he doesn't need a 7 seater anymore. Asking price is £7500, though probably would let it go for a little less to a mumsnetter. Last row of seats folds down (or even comes totally out if necessary). It is truly a wonderful car and I miss it terribly. They really do go forever and ever. And are really a comfortable drive.

Peugeot one is a 307 or a 407, we've been looking at it. But reliability seems to be dire & the seats don't just fold in like with some mpvs. Prices are good though.

Look in the for sale section one MNer was selling a really nice looking mpv for about your price range (should be sold for much more imo) I was going to talk DH into buying it but he went out and bought a bloody passat.

VW Transporters on ebay.

I have a Nissan Serena although they look more like a van than an estate car. They have endless bonus points though, and fitted all my "need" points perfectly. I also had £5k to spend on a car, but loved the fact that I had £3k to play with once I had bought the top of the range model. Depends what you are after.

Forgot to add... the rear two seats fold away leaving you with the biggest boot known to mankind (this was one of my "needs" and was weird on our last holiday after having a Honda Civic pre-child - just threw everything in the boot including Mountain Buggy pushchair and wondered what on earth I could have possibly forgotten. Taking the kitchen sink becomes a distinct literal possibility!

I love my Renault Grand Scenic.
Has the 2 seats in the boot that you can have up or not.
I'm crap at cars and couldn't tell you how much these are but I love mine. (God that sounds totally pathetic - can I be excused on the basis that I'm about to give birth any day and only got the car 3 months ago?)
Good luck!
