It cuts out every few mins and has to have a rest. sigh.
loathe to call dyson out AGAIN... had them out in november and another call out will cost £55.
thinking of just getting a new one. any recommendations? should i stick with dyson or change?

have seen sebo, bosch and miele mentioned.....

I prefer an upright cleaner......

It's a shame cos I recently had to buy a hoover and I have had uprights. Toss up for me between Miele & Henry.

I got Henry as it's cheaper.............bestest hoover in the world ever. I should have bought one years ago.

Sebo

AllieBongo · 22/06/2006 19:59

clean the filter. wash in plain water. it gets too hot and the cut off kicks in. If not buy a new yellow filter bit. mine did this

cupcakes · 23/06/2006 11:02

my dyson seems to have lost some of it's power. It's lost suction.
I've cleaned the filter and checked the hose for blockages.
I'm not too surprised as we have been using it excessively (building work) and it's been consuming lots of grit.

AllieBongo · 23/06/2006 11:10

we did the same. you need to replace the blue sponge and the yellow filter. brick dust clogs when you wash it

cupcakes · 23/06/2006 11:12

ah, so it's knackered then and does need replacing? I had hoped a good clean would have been ok.
Where do you get parts from?

AllieBongo · 23/06/2006 11:46

the engineer replaced mine! i called him out.

JanH · 23/06/2006 11:54

Mine just stopped sucking - didn't stop, made a lot of noise but didn't pick anything up - and I got the bloke out (after swearing on my children's life to the operator that YES I HAVE ALREADY TAKEN IT APART AND CLEANED EVERYTHING THREE TIMES THANK YOU!!!!)

He replaced about 75% of the working parts - gave me a new blue filter thing and carrier and sent a new motor (the big bit that the clear dust holder clips onto) through the post. He said there was a design fault somewhere along the line. (Mine is about 4 yrs old now I think)

I knew about Dysons' unreliability when I bought it though so shelled out for the extended warranty - I suspected that in this case it was worth it (I think it cost about £50 so I'm guessing it did!)

Tatties · 23/06/2006 11:55

We just got a Miele and I actually LOVE hoovering now.

JanH · 23/06/2006 11:56

I also have a dogs bollocks miele cylinder - they don't do uprights though, do they? Sebo are the best uprights I believe - hang on, will check Which mag.

Tatties · 23/06/2006 11:58

We have a cylinder but I'm sure they do uprights - one got top marks in a recent Good Housekeeping review.

Mumbojumbo · 23/06/2006 12:21

Henry is brilliant!

From an ex-Dyson user.

monkeytrousers · 23/06/2006 12:23

Dyson's always break. They are so shit

JanH · 23/06/2006 12:29

So they do, Tatties - it's a weird one though

noma · 23/06/2006 19:26

You could try espares on line i got my filters from them, they have all the bits for dyson, you can take the dyson to bits and replace quiet a lot as long as it isnt electrical, still i dont blame you if you want to change it, its not easy cleaning the stairs you can tell it was designed by a man.

geogteach · 23/06/2006 19:41

Exactly the same issue I bought a sebo on Tuesday and so far i'm impressed, does laminate and carpet automatically changing height of brushes and the warrenty it comes with is longer than my dyson lasted for.

alittlebitshy · 23/06/2006 19:44

ooh thanks everyone so far

esp Janh for your research.

i gathered miele and sebo were the best, and am a bit that they don;t do upright. think may go for sebo if we replace it. my dad is talking about me bringing it to theirs (going next week anyway) and taking it to "his man" lol. may see what comes of that and deal with 3 min burst of hoovering in the meantime
