i have followed a few threads re this rather elusive pushchair. I want one to take on holiday beg July but it doesn't seem as though I am going to get it.

Has anyone actually got one of these yet? I would love to know if they exist or are they just a figment of my imagination.

I have my name on a wait list at WhizzyWheels, Glasgow pram centre, but 10 days ago decided to place order with BabyTrader in the Netherlands as they were supposed to arrive 17 June.

Well they have taken my money and lo and behold no Spider.

I am getting pretty p*ed off (no doubt like many of you) and Mutsy must be one of the worst companies ever - why have months of peddling your product then failing miserably to deliver and still not even manage to confirm delivery times. When you manage to get on their web-site when you click on products all you get for the Spider is "coming soon"!
Will get off my moanbox, I look forward to hearing from others!

I got sick of waiting and bought something else TBH!!

channelislandmum · 22/06/2006 20:18

Thanks for your response - I can fully understand it. I am very tempted to just go for the quinny Zapp - even though i don't like it and it doesn't recline - it doesn't have much going for it other than its compact and available!

Has anyone got one yet????
Or been given a definate date for one? I've just been told by one company, 3-4 days but then a different company told me there's none in the Uk til August!!

channelislandmum · 27/06/2006 21:55

I have had my nightly look on the web-site of Babytrader.co.uk, the Netherlands Company that have happily taken my money but have yet to deliver the goods!
There is a link for Mutsy Spider but when you click, all you get is a no information available message - they seem to have disappeared!
I will e-mail this evening and await the next excuse.
Sorry but Mutsy really are the pits, the situation with this pushchair doesn't say a lot for the business acumen of a company that states it has been selling pushchairs since the 1930'S!
There is an e-bay seller, but I dont know if s/he actually has any in stock!

Can't help with the Mutsy I'm afraid and I don't know how old you child is but... I can recommend the Micralite. I'm really pleased with mine - it reclines a little (enough for DD who is 26 months to sleep in for 2 hours yesterday on buses and a train!) and is light and is easy to fold. I know mnetters have moaned about the Zapp.

Lact8 · 27/06/2006 22:01

Can't believe they've taken your money

I was so excited ordering mine on Sunday night and now I'm starting to think uh oh

The website I got mine from makes a big point of saying if it says in stock, it is in stock. But when I've emailed them its not - aarrgh!

Why cant they just add a recline to the Quinny???

Lact8 · 27/06/2006 22:07

Hi Gem, I looked at the micralite in Mothercare at teh w/end. How wide do you find the front of it? THe reason I wanted a 3 wheeler is because I can't drive and go everywhere by public transport and I'm always catching the front wheels on the posts on the buses. When I saw the micralite it just seemed a bit too wide.

Can I be cheeky and ask you to measure the width of the front of yours please?? I want to compare it to the one I've got at the moment and didn't take a tape measure to mothercare

Thank you!

Gem13 · 27/06/2006 22:54

I've find it fine although I'm used to a 3 wheeler (Nipper) so it takes a bit of getting used to but no more than anything new.

It's fab on public transport. I bought it as I have a 3 year old as well and wanted him to walk more. So we walk into town pushing DD and then get the bus up the hill home.

I'll measure it tomorrow if that's ok - it's in the boot of the car at the moment.

Lact8 · 27/06/2006 23:30

Tomorrow's fine

I've got a 2 year old and he wants to walk everywhere too at the moment so I want something that I can push onehanded on and off the bus so I can keep a tight grip on him, he's like a whippet!

Off to take another look at the micralite

Cheers again

Gem13 · 28/06/2006 13:32

The front bit by the wheels is 60 cms wide.

It's good for pushing one handed unlike the Maclarens. Also there are lots of 'bits' for the child to hold onto - with the Nipper DS has to keep clear of the wide back wheels catching him.

Lact8 · 28/06/2006 15:57

Thanks gem

DP thinks i'm a bit barmy obsessing over pushchairs but he only ever does a stroll at the weekend with them, never on and off buses or in and out of shops

Trying to persuade him he wants a weekend away in the Netherlands but he's not convinced

Looks like i'll be back to mothercare again to try dd in the micralite

Thanks again

channelislandmum · 28/06/2006 21:45

Hi All

First of all apologies for the length of message and 101 questions!

Well here goes, this is the response that I received, I have just done a cut and paste so you need to excuse the odd bits of translation:

Dear Costumer
Mutsy promised us that the Spider would come in the end off March and they didn't come , later they promised to deliver in the end off April and then in May.
The latest they promised us they are on the boat and they will come last week of June.
Yesterday we called Mutsy again and they told us that there was a problem with the security and that the Musty Spider didn't past the test.
We don't know when the Spider will come.
We want to ask you if you still want to wait or if we should refund you the money?
Please let us know what you want.
We are sorry for this discomfort.

Kind regards Siebe and Alice

Well I guess that rules out getting a Spider any time soon then!

I was going to ask others to recommend an alternative - and seems some very kind person has thought ahead.

What put me off the Micralite was the back wheels being narrower than the front - do your feet get it the way of the big tyres? Sorry if that seems like a stupid question. I am only 5ft 3" but always late so have a tendency to march rather than walkl!

Would it be suitable for airline travel? I have a Techno XT, but dont like it for travelling on my own as I need to put down child (who takes this as an opportunity to bolt - he is 2 on 29 July and v lazy doesn't like to walk!) in order to undo both catches to be able to fold the thing. I have had to carry child, pushchair and changing bag down 3 flights of stairs at Boston a few months ago in order to board plane - my husband got ill so I had no option but to travel back on my own and there was no help available for a mother travelling on her own - apparently!

I travel to Glasgow from Jersey quite often - again on my own - and this involves a change in Gatwick, so need something lightweight but a recline is a must. I have sat him in a Zapp - he is slightly above average height but is a bit on the skinny side, but he just looked so uncomfortable - and I dont like the idea of him going to sleep in it on holiday I am sure he would have neck ache!

Hi CIM

In answer to your questions - you can turn the handlebar the other way on the Micralite so that instead of it looking like a 'U' it looks like an 'N' this gives you a large gap between your feet and the buggy.

I think it would be ideal for travel. I bought it primarily to encourage DS to walk into town (pushing my youngest) and then fold up to get the bus home which we do. But I also bought it as at one point it looked like we might be accompanying DH to Asia for work. I knew I would need something I could walk with but fold up quickly to bung in a taxi while keeping a hold on both children (mine are 3 and 2 so can also 'go'!). It is easy to fold and unfold singlehandly.

I wasn't keen on the small recline but DD happily slept in it the other day for 2 hours so it must have been pretty comfortable. It's more easy chair (think post Sunday lunch when a lot of people manage to fall asleep in an armchair) than recliner!

HTH.

Gem13 · 29/06/2006 21:22

Sorry - wrong sort of 'N' shape! I meant a large 'n'.

channelislandmum · 30/06/2006 08:07

Hi Gem

thank you very much for your response. I have been doing a bit more research and I really like the idea that when folded it stands up!
I guess at the end of the day it boils down to the micralite or the zapp, but I think some recline is better than nothing at all - so I am about to get on the phone this morning and order one from the UK that can hopefully be with us next week for going away on 8 July!
I saw some insect/uv protection sun nets on e-bay so may order one of them too!
Once again thank you for your invaluable help.

OP posts:
Gem13 · 30/06/2006 08:24

You're welcome!

One thing I would add before you order is that you might want to think about getting a footmuff if you plan to use this as your main buggy at some point.

The mesh netting at the back is ideal for hot summers but DD's back was quite cold the other (cloudy) day when I took her out after an hour or so. I have put in a sheepskin now but the fit isn't ideal because of the headrest.

Just something to consider while you're already paying P & P for the buggy!

channelislandmum · 30/06/2006 22:48

Hi Gem

Ordered a micralite from Lullabys - very nice lady, it should be here Tuesday, which gives us a few days to get used to it.
Didn't go for extra bits as this will only be for holidays, if I need footmuff (probably when I visit Glasgow next) I can get one from Glasgow pram centre.
Got an e-mail response from Mutsy, they are saying they are currently being produced, but first deliveries will not be until end of July at earliest.
Fed up, can't be bothered to wait.If all else fails will go back to the Maclaren.
Many thanks.

shhhh · 03/07/2006 14:45

I got sick of waiting as well. Got a quinny zapp instead. BTW although it doesn't recline ( a big concern for us) dd loves the pram and falls asleep very well in it..!! Not being able to recline is not an issue for her. LOL think she could fall asleep on a tv..!!!

The uk models have been delayed due to health and safety issues..BUT the europe models should be launched before ours are. Apparently although the eu they have differnt health and safety standards to us.

BTW the ebay seller is brilliant as I reserved one with her..sadly...she doesn't have stock yet either..!!!

channelislandmum · 03/07/2006 21:21

Hi again

I am still very tempted by the Spider - even though i have just ordered the micralite. I was obsessed with prams when I was little!
My son is nearly 2 (my baby is going!) I dont think the recline is as much as a problem as it would have been a year ago. He falls asleep in the car seat wearing his sun glasses - my car seat doesn't recline with the seats that I have, and that doesn't seem to be a problem.
As this is pushchair 5 (1 Jane, 2 x bugaboos, 1 Maclaren!) I dont quite know how I would manage a third though.
In terms of H&S, from what I have discussed with UK supplier, the only difference between Europe and UK, is UK has specific fire regulations for fabrics. So all pushchairs, car seats etc, the fabric has to be fire retardant.

I had my spider on order months ago but was told a release date of mid june so cancelled. Perhaps these don't really exist and it's a marketing scam.

torti · 02/08/2006 21:16

got one today - it is good
folds nice, only takes half my boot not 2/3 rds like zapp

lolano2 · 14/08/2006 20:28

Hi i got my mutsy spider this week after waiting FOREVER!
my advice is save yourself some money and dont bother. Ill be going back to my beloved micralite i think

Shaboogle · 14/08/2006 23:00

Does the handlebar on your Mutsy Spider keep slipping down to a lower height position?

Just curious to find out if it's just mine or a common fault. Also, what do you make of the raincover - it seems far too small to me...

lolano2 · 15/08/2006 09:59

I havent noticed the handle moving so far..but i did read it in another reveiw.
and yes the rain cover is far too small, will be torn in no time, my little girl hates it and so kicks it until i take it off. i read in the manual that the fabric can discolour if it get too wet in the rain GREAT

shhhh · 15/08/2006 13:11

I had also heard about the raincover being to small in a rcent review about it..also about the fact that the fabric must not get wet..Not an ideal pram imo BUT mutsy never state things like that in the sale pitch..ggrrr..Glad I didn't get one now.

Why don't those of you who have one do a mn review on it..?? Worthwhile for those mner's ho are interested in it. Esp later on. xx
