M & S.

Ds1s M&S shorts have adjustable waist like on maternity trousers!

I was just about to post ' Oh, Yorkiegirl told me that Adams do adjustable waists'

I don't know, but I need to find maroon skirt and cardi (everything else is white or black, but MAROON?)

Anyone know which type of black girls' shoes are acceptable schoolwear?

And how many of each do I buy?

My head hurts, and September is 10 weeks away.

Woolies have maroon intermittently. Or try old-fashioned school uniform suppliers. Or John Lewis (not cheap, though). We've generally had pinafores where the waist isn't a problem.

Re shoes: anything that isn't high-heeled/ open-toed/ trainers/ boots is okay for most schools. For infants you want velcro really, not buckles or laces. Don't buy shoes too early, for some reason summer holidays is classic time for growth spurts. I thought I was being really clever one year beating the rush and buying shoes at the beginning of August. By September they'd all grown out of them.

thanks Frogs, The local School outfitters charge £13 for a skirt - for a 4 year old!
Will bear in mind the thing about shoes, but dreading rushing to Clarks on August Bank Holiday, battling the crowds for the last pair of 9Fs.

foxinsocks · 21/06/2006 20:37

that image in your mind (re shoe shopping) is about right - you'll wait as long as possible, it'll be the hottest weekend of the holidays and they'll be one style of shoe left in your child's size and it will be one she doesn't like!

also don't forget shoe labels or a laundry pen to write her name in shoes because loads of kids have the same shoes

Tesco skirts last year had adjustable waist.

Ah, okay Gb, not such a great source then.

Time to make friends with someone who has an only dd in Y2, methinks. Or possibly if the school has a summer fair, they may have a rack of 2nd hand uniform for sale then.

Re the shoes you can also (though you're obviously not meant to) have the shoe fitting without actually buying, then sneak back 2 days later and buy a half size up. Although my children have been known to go up a whole size or more over the summer.

Our local Asda stores are great for stocking the uniform for the local schools, so always have maroon because 2 schools have it as a main colour.

They even post uniform lists in customer services before the main school terms.

Since they can obviously source maroon it might be worth asking your local store if they can get it or intend to stock it.

hockeymum · 23/06/2006 09:52

Yep - Asda have lovely cotton maroon girls cardigans at the moment, with a pretty scolloped edge and flower shaped buttons £4. Was dead chuffed as dd's uniform will be maroon, but thankfully she has a grey skirt so I can get that in Asda too £3, cant imagine where to get a maroon skirt other than John Lewis I'm afraid! sorry
