doesn't have a drop down side? Dh and I have seen a lovely big cot in John Lewis but it doesn't have drop down sides (ie it's solid all round so you have to lean in) - am I going to be cursing it in a few months when I drop the level down as dd starts pulling herself up/standing?

Just opened a mailshot from John Lewis - their sale starts on 1 July (not sure if you can buy sale stuff online now). Just in case it's the Oregon cotbed you're after, it will be reduced from £250 to £150 in the sale.

Totally agree with Enid - get a cotbed! dd2 was 3 in May and still in her cotbed (formerly owned by dd1), it's never occurred to her to climb out and it's plenty big enough. I'm leaving the sides on until she's about 7.

I have never used the drop down side on my cot. The third child is in it now and he's nearly 2 - in 5 years I've never used it!
