He was so angry I had been sold shoes for DD that gave her blisters. He was fuming.

This was the second pair actually, firstly size 1G - after a day's wear at school she had a blister and said they were too tight in the length. She wore her old ones for a day so her feet could heal then we gave it a go for another couple of days but they still hurt her.

Went back to Clarks, they changed them for a 1.5F. Same again, she wore them around the house for a few days then wore them to school. Again blisters and this time pleading for me not to make her wear them.

I took them back without her as she was at school (in her old scruffy numbers!) and the manager said he wished he could have measured her in them himself but I have to work so yesterday was the only day I had to take them back.

He kept saying he would speak to the sales assistant and I kept saying "look, I don't want anyone to get into trouble, maybe it's just these shoes and DD's feet are incompatible!" but he was off on one. He said "you might as well buy her shoes in ASDA if you're not going to get a correct fit", "you pay extra for this fitting service" and on and on he went. Shock

I took my refund and crept away leaving him to rant.

blimey takes his job seriously then

How very uplifting. He's on a lonely one-man crusade though, I fear..... Grin

I would go as far as to say he almost had tears in his eyes. I wanted to say "calm down mate, she'll be fine". To think I thought I might have a battle on my hands about them refunding me!

Clarks are brilliant about refunding ... I had a refund once that I didn't even ask for because dd grew out of her shoes in 4 weeks and they should have lasted longer.

It sounds as if he's got the right idea though; if sales assistants are fitting children so badly then something needs to be done about it ... sounds like he's the man to do it!

JoolsToo · 20/06/2006 20:11

great service and his comment "you might as well buy her shoes in ASDA" is spot on when you think about it!

good on him!

I was impressed but not impressed enough to sing Clarks' praises too much - been fitted wrongly about 5 times now and dd is 7! Makes you wonder why you go back but choice is pretty limited for leather "sensible" school shoes that don't cost £50!

Why is it that in Clarks we all have different width feet when we're kids but miraculously when we're adults we all have to wear the same shoes! I usually have to buy mine from old granny catalogues and Evans.

SoupDragon · 24/06/2006 09:26

I agree SHRose. I can't buy lots of shoes because my feet are too narrow. Some (very few) places do sell a choice of normal or wide fitting but nowhere onthe highstreet sells narrow ones. Madness.

moondog · 24/06/2006 09:32

KBear, hmmmmm, methinks he is a planted actor perpetuating the myth that Clarks care.

Which they don't.

How hard can it be to find a pair of shoes that fit fgs.

I didn't go to the Clarks University to get my MPhil in shoe fitting but can do it with me eyes closed.

Quite happy to buy shoes in Asda,on and even second hand.

Caligula · 24/06/2006 09:54

Ah, how heartwarming to have found someone who loves his job!

QueenPeaHead · 24/06/2006 09:59

I find that clarks never fit properly, startrite always do.

maybe it is just my kids' feet, but that is a pretty universal rule for me in the last 8 years.

maybe give her a go in startrites - it may just be that her foot doesn't like clarks.
