READ this B4 U buy a quinny zapp buggy i have had a terrible experience with it

I purchased this pram in September 2005 after lots of looking in John lewis, mothercare, etc. This pram is currently marketed as a compact light travel system suitable from birth when used with maxi cosi car seat. Well initially i was happy with my quinny zapp...BUT very quickly it became apparent it had problems...

Quite rickety suspension and shaky when pushing it
TOTALLY UNSTABLE AND PRONE TO TIPPING OVER - it did this in a number of occasions, including on the bus when the bus was moving. I was absolutely horrified/frightened as you can imagine.

Anyway I recently contacted the manufacturer via their website to report these problems, and their response was as follows

''The Zapp is an very popular model within the Quinny range. It is designed as a light weight quick shop 2nd buggy and is not designed to replace the traditional pushchair/travel system''.

Soooo obviously i feel conned as nowhere in the marketing literature does it make it explicit the zapp is a 2nd quick shop only buggy - they continue to market it as a travel system, and it was not cheap either

Its only good Good Points are - Light weight pram if you only use it in urban settings on pavements for quick trips

Bad Points -TOTALLY unstable

Rickety suspension

prone to tipping over when used with maxi cosi insert (has done with me @ 6 times and 3 times with DP.) Zapp buggy has huge straps and my baby did not fit at 6months, despite literature saying it was suitable from 6mth

Marketed as a buggy travel system when in fact it is really only a light weight stroller.

IN Summary - Unsafe and rickety suspension

Its a really unsafe pram it tips over

DON'T Buy this pram. It really only is good as a light weight stroller or travel buggy in which case you could get a mothercare stroller for @ £35 for the same purpose.

I do feel it was marketed (and priced) inappropriately. Also annoyed that the manufacturer admits it is a intended as a second quick shop buggy only. To which my obvious response is well it was not sold as that, take a look at mothercare catalogue or quinny.co.uk website.

Also, i dont really have the money to be buying two buggies, nor was it my intetntion.

now i am awaiting arrival of Bugaboo cameleon, which had i known that Quinny consider the zapp only as a second buggy i would not have purchased in the first place.

my advice is DONT BUY if you want a light weight buggy there are other cheaper alternatives available.

Keep smiling

i didnt like mine either for the reasons you stated, but miss it cos it was so compact when folded.

but they do sell for near full price on ebay.

So are you sellin gyours then [cheeky Grin]

I am looking for one as I use a bike and trailer system and need one to fit in the back when we go out.

I had heard that they were rickity and also wondered about the stability, however I want one for very much occasioanly use so I think it should be okay?

I love my zapp, bought it when DS was 18 months old for a trip to australia and think it is fab, very light and compact. Now use it all the time nad think it is great for a toddler

Have to say I think it is quite clear that the buggy is not suitable for little ones as the seat does not recline! - would not have used it for ds before 1 year as prefered him to be reclined! I know that you can use it with a carseat in, but only as a convenience if out and about for short periods with the car- it is really bad for little ones to be in car seats for any length of time (think most manufacturers recommend no more than 2 hours a day)and personally canot see the point of using the travel system bit unless you are going somewhere in the car, so find it v odd to see little babies scrunched up in them on a bus. If you use public transport or walk a lot buy a buggy that lies flat for the baby or, better still a pram!

ScottishMummy · 14/06/2006 12:30

I have not had the baby in the Zapp buggy yet as he is too wee for it the straps are huge. zapp buggy remains unused.

i used the maxi coi insert with zapp frame for short periods of time as i am aware of the research that states dont leave babies in car seat too long, but quinny dont address this explicitly.

it does tip easily and as there is no shooping basket you tend to hang the odd bag off the handles
Bad idea
So even though my dd is nearly out of a buggy I got rid of mine and bought an M+P buggy which I love

shazronnie · 14/06/2006 12:44

liked the look of the quinny at first, but now I can see lots of drawbacks. I keep seeing mums with changing bag / shopping / etc strapped on handles etc, which looks rubbish and can't be safe for stability.

shhhh · 14/06/2006 16:47

we recently bought one for holidays..imo thats the impression we got, that it was more for holidays etc as easily fits into an overhead compartment.

We find it brilliant although due to it being so light it's prone to tip although this has NEVER happened to us..we never hang anything off the handles though as advised.

I agree it's quite expensive compared to other holiday buggies but dh & I love it and feel we made a good choice.

Suppose you can't win 'em all..!!

PanicPants · 14/06/2006 17:03

I love my zapp too, but again, we bought it because it was light weight and compact. Ds was 7 months at the time and I have never had a problem with it. BUT I can see that as a travel system for a newborn it isn't appropriate.
