Do you think its a mistake or not?

Our fridge freezer is buggered so I've bought a new fridge, but, there is no freezer compartment.

I bought this in the hope that we will all eat healthier and have meals from scratch and not frozen.

Do you think this is a good idea or have I made a mistake? We will have a small chest freezer in the garage, but I intend to have things like home made lasagne, chicken nuggets etc in it and no shop bought

it looks lovely, I would love one
if you have a small chest frezzer in the garage I see no problem at all

if you had NO freezer at all I would think that maybe you were making life very hard for yourself but you have one so cooool Smile

Ledodgyherring · 13/06/2006 17:36

I think it's fine we hardly use our freezer we only use it for ice and ice lollies and to cool down wine quick lol. The small chest freezer in garage should be fine.

I intend to get rid of bread bins etc and keep bread in the fridge

OK gonna post on this one as well

what about ice for your drinks? it will be a pain to keep going to the garage for some ice

Radley · 13/06/2006 17:40

We don't have ice in our drinks, we've got a massive filter jug that we keep in there constantly.

there's nothing unhealthy about frozen food. It's pre-prepared stuff in general that's bad - fresh or frozen. frozen veg and home-frozen meals are great - we have a freezer full of boxes of home made bolognese etc.

so yes, mistake.

SenoraPostrophe · 13/06/2006 17:45

oh right. just read the bit about the chest freezer. why the issue then?

yomellamoHelly · 13/06/2006 18:37

Don't think it's a mistake, necessarily. I buy lots of bags of frozen veg and lots of meat and freeze it, so I've always got a meal in the house if required. Then we buy fresh fruit veg and fruit from the market nearly every day to supplement this and make whatever meal we've got planned. Both fridge and freezer are crammed.
Would recommend investing in a stash of tupperware for leftovers- then you've always got the chance of healthy snacks and lunches at the drop of a hat.

I've never had a fridge with a freezer - I've always had a separate freezer. It was a pain in the old house when I had to have the freezer in the cellar but now I have both in the kitchen - a big larder fridge and a big front opening freezer. Couldn't be without a freezer but I think those little compartments in a fridge are a waste of fridge space anyway (unless you have no room for a freezer and have no other option).

shhhh · 13/06/2006 19:50

We used to have a fridge minus the freezer in the kitchen with a freezer in the garage..Pain in the a@@@..! We now have a fridge with a miini freezer which is brill. We rarely have convenience foods and I cook most nights from scratch..spag bol, cottage pie, chicken roast etc etc. I just buy food for the week and freeze items that can be frozen ie mince/meat if on offer, bread, ice, lollies, some meals made in advance for dd etc.

I think a freezer is essential and esp one in the kitchen..think about the winter and hassel of getting stuff out for meals..

SoupDragon · 13/06/2006 20:02

Doesn't keeping bread in the fridge make it go stale or is that a myth?

SenoraPostrophe · 13/06/2006 20:30

no, I think it's something about keeping it un-stale for too long so the mould has more time to grow? Or did I make that up?
