New pushchair?

I think my Maclaren Volo has had its day. The brakes have broken, the wheels no longer want to go in the same direction as I do, it spontaneously collapses from time to time and ds in his winter coat is a perilously tight fit. BUT ds is 2.5. He is a little klutz and still finds it very hard to walk for any length of time (he's my brilliant boy but not the most advanced child physically) so I can't do without a pushchair unless I'm prepared to carry him everywhere. So what do you recommend? Should I buy a new one? Ebay? I want a lightweight collapsible pushchair to fit a round little chap in comfortably (so need a reasonable seat size) and I'll probably use on and off for another year or so at least. What shall I do, wise ones?

We have a ds who will be 2.9 when no2 arrives in June. We currently using a maclaren umberalla buggy (can't remember the model but it was about 70 quid?) but this no good for the baby as it doesn't go flat. SO, we will have to get the urban detour down from the loft. Question: can you fit a buggy board to these? I know you're not really supposed to, but has anyone managed to?

Demented · 13/02/2004 18:00

Scampadoodle, I think the problem with fitting a buggy board to an Urban Detour (or certainly the models I have, both fixed front wheel models) is the space available between the handle and the buggy for the child to stand IYKWIM. HTH.

God i'm thick sometimes. I had forgotten that you had to seperate Babys and Mart Thanx FD

scampadoodle · 16/02/2004 15:26

Demented: yes, I see what you mean. B*gger. Maybe ds could perch on the long bit at the front when he gets tired.

prettycandles · 17/02/2004 15:25

Does the Urban Detour have a basket underneath hanging from a rigid frame? My Graco has that and, although we originally fitted a Buggy Board to it, ds now simple stands on the basket's frame, comes up inside the handle, and holds on to the sides of the handle. Also, we used the board that's meant for an umbrella fold buggy on the Graco, as the other sort (for prams etc) stuck out too far and would have had ds standing under the handle bar, rather than inside it.

Hello - new to Mumsnet but looking for advice on 2nd puschair (currently still using travel system pch but it's heavy and bulky!) My ds is 20 mths and I would like something that reclines totally flat if poss. Quite like the McClaren Techno as it has adjustable handles - our TS has them at 102cms and find this too low. My dh and I are both tall. Does anyone have the Techno? What do you think of it? Just seen the Chicco Ponee XS on Ebay (brand new) and wondered if anyone has that/experience of it? What a dilemma!! Intend to go to a big Mothercare and try a few out ... Thanks :-)

Well, after all that, I ended up in Hammersmith taking ds to the theatre and having dropped him off with his grandma outside, parked and run back like loon, ended up facing him having to walk (ha!) for about an hour at his pace or carrying him so popped into the mothercare right next door instead and spent £50 on a basic blue buggy with hood which he seems to really like. Not cool or trendy but so much better than the Volo.
My friends with Technos really love them and have been using them since birth (children now all 2.6 approx). They seem a good buy to me, though didn't want to spend that much at this stage.

We have a techno and it is brillant - DD is a 23month old skinny bean pole and she manages to lye down and go to sleep and looks really comfy.

We brought ours from kiddicare it came in a matter of days and it's been the best £100 sent on dd.

HTH

answer to georgie 71 re techno, these are not really suitable for newborns, as they don't lie flat enough. I have a chicco ponee, and it is great for children under 2. Very easy to puish with one hand, and fold, carry etc. It is only a little difficult to get up kerbs when my 18mth old holds onto the bumper bar and sits right forwards. But she looks so cute when lying down and resting her feet on the bumber bar! I have had about 8 pushchairs for 2 kids, so I'm well experienced!!!!! ha ha...Also have a Mcare urban detour, couldn't live without it, and pink princess stroller. Wish they would make big pushchairs in pink!!!!

CountessDracula · 25/02/2004 15:40

We have had a Techno since dd was born and it was fine, went flat enough. We bought a warm fleecy cosytoes for it so she was more comfy.

bossykate · 25/02/2004 16:12

smellybabe, i think it depends which version of the techno you get. the latest one goes flat enough for newborns. we got a lambskin buggy liner for extra comfort.

viva · 26/02/2004 11:48

just to say i think maclaren pushchairs are good i go in a maclaren major coz i have bad joints and cant walk far mums getting me a lambs wool linner so cosy arnt they

CountessDracula · 26/02/2004 22:59

Smellybabe I was in mothercare yesterday and they had pink buggies, full sized ones!

here is a picture!

wondermum · 27/10/2004 19:58

I bought a Chicco Ponee and I wouldnt recommend it - the back doesnt go completely upright and my son is constantly holding himself up on the bumper bar. Also, he's only 11 months but already looks squashed in it - I didnt realise how small the seat was when I bought it - booh!
