Right, have bought a new car - a Mini - and I can't find an Isofix car seat that will fit it!!!

My current car (a Megane) is also Isofix but I have never used it so I think its an 'optional' thing.

My new car which I pick up Saturday has Isofix and I think I definitely have to use it.

I have about 300 car seats and none of them seem to be Isofix!!

Anyone know which car seats will fit?

DD will be 4 in September and happily sits in a booster seat - surely one of the ones we already have will be fine?

DS is 19 months.

Any help appreciated!

Britax Duo Isofix or Maxi Cosi Priori fix ? Do they "recommend" one ? why must you use it in the Mini and not the Megane ?

hulababy · 12/06/2006 11:04

If your DD is 4yo then I would use a booster seat with back. the only isofix one I think is the Jane Indy plus at about £90. We have this and we are very pleased with it. However other non-isofix booster seats did better int he most recent Which reports.

For the 19mo I would definitely recommend the isofix seat as they consistently do better in Which reports at this stage. We had the Britax Duo, at about £150-180. But the security it gave me mad eit a worthwhile investment.

According to their website the Britax Duo fits the Mini, although:

Only approved with additional foam padding (available from your retailer or from Customer Services tel 01264 386034)

Lizs I just looked at the Britax and Maxi Cosi websites and both tell me theirs won't fit the mini.

I am only assuming I 'must' use it in the mini, as the back seats are bucket-shaped and have these plastic holes at the back of the seat that say 'isofix' all over them, and I just thought that due to the shape of the seats, something that will defintely fit properly would be preferable.

My Megane I assume you can use it or not, as I didn;t even know it was isofix until last week when I saw a label on the back seat cloth, and my seats have always been perfectly rigid in it without using the Isofix.

The 'Mini' man just told me not to buy the mini car seats!!!!

Hulababy, I will have another look at the Britax website. When I loked I though the sad faces meant it wouldn't fit.

I have a Britax car seat at home, how would I know if it was Isofix? Its about 2.5 years old.

they clal them menopause minis you know

LIZS · 12/06/2006 11:10

The Renault recommended one is actually a Britax Duo in disguise, might be worth finding out which the Mini one is ? As long as it has a 3 point belt you should find an ordinary one to fit.

www.britax.co.uk/FitFinder/GB/FirstResults.php?CarModel=Mini&CarSpec=2+Door&FirstManf=2001&LastManf=2006&Weight=all

This is the page from Britx I found, I can't see that Britx Duo on there?

Isofix has specific bars and/or plate at the join of the base to the upright back and would be labelled as such. Chances are if you didn't set out to buy one you wouldn't have because of the price differential and they would still have been fairly new onto the market.

hulababy · 12/06/2006 11:15

Ah, I did fit finder and it didn't come up.

On \link{http://www.britax.co.uk/cms_downloads/Britax_Duo_Plus_ISOFIX_List.pdf\here} it does same compatible but maybe only with other seats???

NomDePlume · 12/06/2006 11:15

Stupid Britax site. I've just gone to find which isofix would be suitable for DH's car and they haven't listed the specification (model year stops at 2003), what a load of cack

mythumbelinas · 12/06/2006 11:17

hmm, when my sis comes round in her mini to take my kids out we manage to fit my maxi-cosi in the back of her mini ..

Mum2Ela · 12/06/2006 11:24

mythumbelinas does the maxicosi fit in it tightly?

Cod my mini is cool as poo, its red with go-faster stripes down the front and I can't wait to get it and zoom around with the top off :)

I'll have a loom at that one Hulababy thanks. The Britax fit finder on their website is shite, its very confusing - my car comes up with having 3 seats in the back when there are only 2!

Mum2Ela · 12/06/2006 12:14

Cod, goes without saying ;)

Why do you call them menopausal mums, or am I being a bit thick? I hope its to do with them being menopausal and not what you thinkof the car. Hopefully, at 26, am not in that category!

DP had ordered a new MINI Cooper S before I found out I was expecting. DD is now almost 4.

We ordered the MINI Isofix car seat. It is pricey (about £300 IIRC) but it will last you as it has a lap try for babies, this can then be removed when they are old enough to just use a booster seat as it has catches for the seat belt to be fed through.
