I have just got a Miele, after three cheapo machines in three years. It was not cheap, over £500, but it is faberoony, has got a digital display, but is very easy to use, and uses dials and buttons, not a keypad. Can't rate it enough.

\link{http://www.washerhelp.co.uk/reviews/miele-w864-review.html\This is ours, it has never given us any trouble.}

Very disappointed with my Bosch large-capacity during 3 years since I bought it-no way to tell how long to end of cycle on my model, and it smells despite following the directions on cleaning. Cheapo died after 3-4 years before this one, but I just wish this one would snuff it ASAP so I could replace it!

LadySherlockofLGJ · 12/06/2006 10:24

It's a Miele and was about £500

Gingerbear · 12/06/2006 10:25

Miele. Mother of all machines. Mum's still going strong after 20 years.

ggglimpopo · 12/06/2006 10:40

I have two mieles - love them. One is eleven years old (used cloth nappies) and the other is about five years old.

indignatio · 12/06/2006 10:44

Ours is similar to Lady Sherlocks - only the W8645 model - now 4 years old - still looks brand new and we have had no problems with it (touch wood)- think the cheapest place I found it was 24/7 electrical on the net - not sure though - long time ago

Just bought a Miele 520 (Which? Magazine Best Buy). Seems pretty good so far. Cost £500.

Miele, every time. Get the basic model, unless you want to pay extra for the Christmas tree lights effect. Keep it happy by using water softener if you live in a hard water area, and clean the filter every so often. Then forget about it for the next 20 years.

Seriously, it's worth paying the extra £100 or so over a Hoover or Hotpoint. Other machines have an expected lifespan of 7 years, which is pretty much spot on IME. Mieles are expected to last 25 years. My mum's one is 30 and still going strong.

hermykne · 12/06/2006 13:11

wow, miele seems to be amazing.
mine is zanussi and 5yrs old.
dont mind the budget ladysherlock as long as i know its worht it!!
