Pressure fit stairgate without bar at the bottom?

Does such a thing exist? Can anyone recommend one?

We have just purchased a fixed one for the top of our stairs but due to ornate banisters, it can't be screwed in as the screws are going in the wrong bit. Hummph!

I don't think they do exist ..how would they work?

there is the kind that you pull across to close (the travel type ones)

I've never had a stair gate at the top if that's any help .. didn't see the point

That roller one looks good. i was trying to get a which? best buy and the roller one got a hard review, but I guess it's better than nothing at all. In our case we need one.

No, the roller style one isn't pressure mounted, it has to be screwed into the wall. I have been searching for something like this because we live in a rented house and I sense my landlord would have a fit if I started installing stair gates.

Finally settled on \link{http://www.mothercare.com/invt/lv4023&bklist=\this} jobby from Mothercare, the bar at the bottom is very narrow.
