Anyone recommend a good inexpensive toybox? The only decent ones I have seen are the wooden variety with a lid and they are more expensive than I want! I'd like an open topped one too

Plastic ones at Homebase are now reduced to £9.99, can throw loads in and if you can fiddle with the lid could take it off...had ours since ds 1st birthday, he's 8 1/2 now, lid broken (only beacuse they stood on it).

Depends what you mean by toybox, Lisa. The stackable crates (eg Addis) are excellent for toys, you can have different crates for different things, in different colours, and stack 'em as high as you like. (And when they're empty they nest and don't take up much space.)

I suppose I am hankering after a similar one that DS1 had all those years ago. It was about an 18 - 24" cube in primary colours, made from plastic but not the rigid plastic. I don't really want the addis type ones
Can't believe I am being such a princess over a flipping toybox

we use big wicker boxes/chest thingys(they have lids that do up with buckles) from Ikea.........they are massive and cost from about £25 upto about £45.
They look much nicer that the addis type boxes too IMO

hiya lisa. I got a nice seagrass chest in argos, would post you a link with pic if i had brains.

Anyway very roomy and wont hurt little fingers like a wooden one would if they happened to pull lid down. Want the page no?

misdee · 08/02/2004 20:49

How old is the child concerned?

Ime they need this less when they get to 4/5 and get loads of small toys - action man or bey blades andthen you can get little ones from IKEA

Lisa78 · 08/02/2004 21:08

Don't know if this is too expensive but my parents got one (which I picked out ) from the Early Learning Centre for 50 pounds. It is wooden with a lid that comes down slowly - I know you are not really after a wooden one but this one is really nice I think.
