Anyone got a Dyson Washing Machine? Or Bosch/Miele?

Our washing machine has died and I fancy a Dyson. Does anyone know anything about them? If not, John Lewis recommend Miele/Bosch. Any experience of them?

Thanks.

Usually in threads like this Bosch gets the most votes though Miele gets a few too - also AEG - here's one.

Which don't recommend the Dyson - far too expensive for its performance, they reckon.

We bought a washing machine last year, first time we've ever bought one, rented before. We bought a Bosch and it's great, I love it. Didn't realise that it was a cold water machine until it was delivered but it makes no difference at all. they are built to last apparently.

My mums Miele is excellent. Don't the Dysons have that big bulky door that sticks out from under the worktop? Make sure it doesn't take up too much space in your kitchen/utility.

We've got a Dyson. I think it's really good. Each wash takes half the time of our previous machine (a Bosch), and takes about half as much washing again. They are expensive and big, but I haven't regretted it at all, it's just soooo much more efficient.

We have a Miele. Figured with washable nappies it was worth the expense.

I was pleased with it and thought it was great... but now we have moved house and DH can't balance it so it makes a racket and I'm not so sure about it's washing abilities. That could be down to the cheapo Persil powder though. It used to be good so I must investigate further. It does have a 10 year guarantee which was a selling point.

I read there were various environmental issues with Dyson (water guzzling) and I thought I'd need to do smaller more frequent washes (nappies) than it was suitable for.

Sorry for the ramble. Must go to bed.

We have a Bosch Maxx and its FAB! - I usually use the quick wash setting except for nappies overnight and I love it - it's never failed to get the taomato sauce or carrot puree out. I'd highly recommend it, and its about 1/2 the price of the dyson (but my MIL has the dyson and loves it!)

I've got a Miele and its been going like the clappers for nearly 10 years, no problems. It has a fast setting for standard 40degree stuff and a bit longer for hotter washes. Noise is not a problem as its in the cellar (nearly kill myself half the time going down there tho ) Don't know if you can get quiet ones now like you can with dishwashers, might be worth finding out if its in the kitchen.

When I was running my guesthouses in London and has washing on all day, every day, I had two Miele commercial machines (6lb load). I acquired them from a tenant who had been asked to dump them, paid £40 each for them. They stood outside in all weathers for a year. Then I paid about £300 to have them refurbished. They worked in the above conditions for a couple of years without any kind of breakdown. When I ended the business I only needed one so I got rid of one. The remaining one serviced us (a family of 5) for a further 3 1/2 years. When it finally died I bought another second-hard Miele commercial machine for £240 plus installation fee. I've had that one six months now.

hi

We have a dyson and we find it great!! even though our first machine had numorus faults acure but dysons customer service is unbeatable after 7 minor faults & 7 months old i called for the machine to be exchanged, which was done the following week

It is big and bulky but the benifits outweigh the size. As far as the enviroment side it does not use alot more water than most washiers.

Overall a good machine, but some of the noises it make do take time to get used to, like when it switch over to the double drum action.

Another vote for Miele. Ours is 10 years old and going great guns. When we holiday in serviced apartments I am always reminded of how fabulous it is.

tallulah · 07/02/2004 15:57

We've got a Miele. It is very very quiet.

Davros · 07/02/2004 22:10

I found Dyson customer svs lousy in relation to vacuum cleaner that ended up in dustbin

Demented · 08/02/2004 14:56

Another vote for the Miele, ours is five years old now and so far no problems. It is pretty quiet (as far as a washing machine can be) I am always impressed with the results (I used to use Ariel and now use Aldi cheepo tablets and haven't seen any deterioration in the standard of wash).

bluebear · 09/02/2004 15:23

I've got a Bosch, quiet, speedy and reliable, and it's got a kiddie lock.

lazyeye · 09/02/2004 15:25

An engineer constantly attending old cheaper w m recommended Bosch to me and it has been v reliable (watch it leak all over floor tonight) - but it does get a damn good thrashing in our house........and never complains

noddy5 · 09/02/2004 15:27

my old boss was going to John Lewis to buy a new miele as his had died he had recieved the other one as a wedding present and he had been married 20+years.I am def getting one next time!

Blackduck · 09/02/2004 15:42

We went AEG purely because it fitted in the space (Bosch was larger...) But everything we read said Bosch or AEG (AEG also cold water only....) Dyson's - had loooooooooooooong chat with a guy who sells hoovers and washing machines - he hates both! Said he spent all his time sending the Dyson's back. Recommended Bosch/AEG washing machines and Sebo (?) hoovers - or panasonic if you want bagless....

Have just gone out and bought a Bosch this w/e due to comments on Mumsnet. Had an Indesit before which broke down again on Saturday with all my dd1's clothes stuck in it. Bit of a panic as she needed them for her school trip this week! Want to echo everyone's comments re washing machines - do not buy an Indesit with digital display if you can help it. The display malfunctioned twice within 3 years and was not worth repairing. Had one of those w/es when everything broke down. Our fridge has decided to pack in now.

eyelash · 10/02/2004 20:02

I have a Miele and absolutely love it. Clothes come out really clean and with little creasing. Had a Hotpoint before that and no comparison.

vkr · 10/02/2004 20:10

another vote for the miele - friend however swears by the machines which take a larger load (7.5kg?)

vkr · 10/02/2004 20:11

miele needs less powder/liquid or all the clothes stink of fairy
