Traditional wooden toys

I'm looking for a website that sells good quality traditional wooden toys that don't break the bank. Anyone got any suggestions or recommendations? I'm particularly interested in wooden trains but not Brio.

Thanks,

Kate

I've bought items from www.woodentoysonline.co.uk before - just recently train accessories (more track, turntable), which are Brio compatible but considerably cheaper.

You could have a look here .

We came across a company at Bath Christmas Market that sell on-line - www.clementinetoys.com - really nice old-fashioned toys. I bought a set of bricks and a clown mobile for Christmas and they arrived very promptly.

Plan Toys are very good (although distributed by Brio now !)

They don't have trains but lots of other good stuff

I am new to this and see that you can actually put links in - so the site I mentioned is here (hopefully!)

ELC do some nice wooden toys and sets; their Wooden World range has an interlinking train and city road set which you can add to. Our wooden train set is IKEA, with some bits from Sainsbury's mixed in.
Mailorderexpress.com deal in wooden toys from lots of different ranges and have a wooden toys search category.

dawson and son of Saffron Walden do some nice things (they have a web site)

There were some good suggestions on the Carpark Thread . Ragged Rascal (I think) gave me a surprise 10% off for mentioning Mumsnet.

I'm sure it's been said before, but Tesco seems to do the best wooden train set, at a fraction of the price of the Brio one. A huge box for ds' birthday cost us about £25.

dawson and son were my initial first stop for anything wooden... but their company seems to have stopped trading... whcih is infuriating as they seem to be the only company that seemed to do a particular wooden pram clip which i love and like to give as pressies for new babies... if anyone has any idea where i can get similar clip ons... i would be very very grateful... we've got a string of ladybirds and frogs etc... also remember you could get an elephant one...

hope i haven't hijacked this thread!

Mummy Can I have do lots of lovely wooden things and their sale was good. Don't know if it's still on though. The pram and dummy clips I've used were made by Haba, one of the European wooden toy people stocked on Mummy can I have. Urchin also do nice wooden things, but have a small range. I am a complete sucker for wooden toys, especially as ds prefers brightly coloured plastic!

I've also bought some lovely things from clementinetoys . I bought a big chunky train from here . Less than 20 quid and arrived within a week. Their stuff's a bit different from the norm.
