cheap monitors and episiotomy rings

Hi
Baby2 is due in 8 weeks (!gulp), and we are going to have to buy another monitor as ds1 is still using the one we got for him. We got the Tomy walkabout temperature one for him but at £50 it is quite expensive (plus the connection is loose on it and I have to look at it every now and then to make sure it is still connected).
Can anybody recommend a good cheaper monitor that they have good experience of?
Also, I reeeally hope not to have an episiotomy this time, but last time I did and sitting down was horrible for quite a while afterwards (which made feeding difficult etc..) - I saw an episiotomy ring for sale somewhere (on a website) but have forgotten where - does anybody know?
Thanks a lot.

Don't know about monitors.

The better thing for painful episiotomy is a valley cushion, better than a ring that can actually make healing slower because blood circulation is reduced because of the pressure of the ring. That is why they were taken away from the maternity units.

Oh that kind of episiotomy ring! I had horrible images of some new kind of jewelery.

Anyway, I have also heard that rings are not great for you, but with dd I just bought a swimming rubber ring and used that (used it sparingly but I needed to sit down!

We have the most basic Tomy monitor, cost around £20 6 years ago and has been in almost constant use since then by various people. Never get any interference, has a night light for baby room. Not sure whether same one is still made but its called Light and Listen. HTH

When I read the "episiotomy rings" I thought this was going to be about perineum piercing!! lol
