Does anyone have one of the bath that fit over the bath.

My friend is considering buying one but one side of her bath is against the wall - so she was wondering wether it would fit???

Many thanks in advance.

We never actually used the baby bath, because it hurt my back. We always too DD in the bath with one of us.

eidsvold · 31/01/2004 12:47

had one that was a tommee tippee blow up tavel baby bath - easy to blow up and use on a table in the kitchen.. or when I could bend over in the bath .. dd was a tiny baby and so it was easier to have her in that....

The advice I got from my midwife was not to bother with a baby bath, as they are heavy when filled and you can damage your back carting them around. She sugested that we use a new washing up bowl and then move on to the big bath. You can easilt but the bowl on the table, and they only cost a few quid. Less hot water too.

I bathed ds1 nad 2 in the bidet.

I had a firens who had one like that

You ned to measure the lip of the baby bath I suppose..

SoupDragon · 31/01/2004 14:13

I would say that most people's baths are up against a wall aren't they?

handlemecarefully · 03/02/2004 10:29

I hate baby baths (for the reasons that hmb's midwife came up with). Would recommend getting a baby bath seat to allow hands free batheing in a big bath. Some baby bath seats are suitable from birth.

We had one of these that fitted over the bath, and the 'wings' on either side weren't that big that they overhung the bath sides - they just sat across them, so I don't think your friend would have problems with the wall.

I must admit I found it great - not having to bend over the bath. Also the one that we used had a plug in the bottom, so you didn't have the problem of lifting a bath full of water.

both my dds used the type of babybath that looks like a bucket. They float upright in them. Some of the catalogues have them. Recommended to me by a midwife. Young babies seem to love them as they feel safe and stay warmer than in the traditonal bath. Not too heavy, can sit it in the bath to fill it.

Twinkie · 03/02/2004 10:40

Next baby I have I'm not going to buy a bath but will wash it in the sink or just use a washing up bowl - I always got in the bath with DD and from 3 months took her in the shower with me - sooo much easier and less time consuming than all that bathing stuff - she did get to relax in the bath when she had one with me though and as she is used to water splashing all over her she is great at swimming and jumping in and thinks she is really Ariel!!

Ailsa · 03/02/2004 13:15

I bathed dd2 in the kitchen sink, no bending/leaning at all. I did have a baby bath but got rid after ds, thought I was finished after 2 kids.

We bought one of those fit over the bath models from Mothercare. Howevever, the first time we used it, it tipped up when dd used it! We took it back and used a baby bath and then the big bath. I think that there wasn't enough room between one side of the bath and the wall IYSWIM. I would not recommend them, but it seems that others like them,

Tissy · 03/02/2004 20:19

Coddy, I always suspected you were secretly posh!

Bekki · 03/02/2004 20:29

YES! It will fit on her bath.

Bozza · 04/02/2004 11:33

On a similar note I had a sort of cushiony beanbag bathmat for DS which he laid on as a baby and then sat on until I felt he was ok to sit on the ordinary bath mat. It was past its best by the time DS had finished with it but I would like to get another for no2. Anyone know where I got it from? I can't remember.

fairydust · 04/02/2004 17:24

Bekki - thank you

Yes it will fit. Our bath is against the wall and we had no trouble (Mothercare one). And the added bonus is you can fill it from your bath taps while its in place - no lugging bathfuls of water around. And it has a drain plug that you just pull out when you need to empty it and it runs straight into the bath. It was a godsend for me (c section and not wanting to lift baby bath full of water anywhere). I'd recommend heartily.

Baby baths are incredibly useful other than as a baby bath though - on camping hols they carry a lot of washing up or laundry, or make a dinky paddling pool for a dinky toddler. We also used ours as an improvised sandpit and its last incarnation was as a tadpole/frog pond.

coddy, I thought bidets were for soaking your smalls and washing your feet?
