sun protection for scalps

I know it is hardly the weather at the moment, but we are going away in a few weeks and DS will NOT wear a hat and he is quite fair.
I was wondering if anyone knew if there was something on the market that perhaps you could shampoo in or rub in to their scalp thats not greasy sun lotion?

I bought some for DH (a bit thin on top) one time that was a spray from Boots in the Soltan range. It was factor 25.

Hat with straps is not the answer - he will pull it til he strangles himself or just get very upset!

He's 18 months.
I have thought of all hat options - that's why I was wondering if there was a sun protection lotion.

or just use sun lotion. we did when dd was very small and wouldnt wear hat and is fair haired. I wasnt too bothered what her hair looked like though

he's got lots of curly fair hair, but you can see his scalp through it, which is why I think it needs protecting, but I didn't want to turn his head in to an oil slick! But maybe that's the only option.

Mabel - I am with you on this and making copious notes ont his thread. I am currently trying to get my DS (17 months) to wear a hat, still to no avail.

Looks like oil slick it is for both of us then Smile

I had this problem with dd and as we spend a lot of time at the beach wanted to drum into her that she had to wear her hat. I spent one morning just putting it back on as soon as she took it off and she got fed up before I did. After that she wore it on the whole with no problem. She would take it off sometimes to collect water in and then put it back on. Lovely! I also found that once she got on the beach and was engrossed in playing in the sand she would forget to take it off.

I got her a peak hat in lycra type material, like the sun suits, with a flap on the back. It was from a charity shop but I think it was a Boots one.

We used the non-chemical (titanium dioxide) suncream by soltan. Ds always gets it all over his head at nursery. Don't think is very greasy - but it is a pain to wash off!

I have a very cool baby bandana which I bought on holiday? It seems to stay on more readily than a hat (which always flops over DS's eyes anyway).

Dh uses a quick dry sport spray lotion from Superdrug - I think - not sure if you can use it for kids but its great for his receding hairline - think its in his fishing tackle box...............Yep its Banana boat. you'd probably need to call them to see if its suitable for kids - my Ds used to have a legionnaires hat which he picked out himself and surfer mum we just perservere until he stopped taking it off. the bandanas or buffs are good too and look really cool.

I bought a Soltan scalp lotion but it was v v greasy, DH didn't mind it, but I wouldn't use it on DD's head again, looked like she hadn't had her hair washed for months.
