It's the Vogue of parenting magazines. V unrealistic prices for all the products, but nice if you want to dreamSmile

yoyo · 17/05/2006 17:20

Good guide to what's going on in London if you live near. I have a subscription which I never get round to cancelling. Some good articles but usually I just find myself saying "look at the price of that!". Also features fab looking holidays that I'll never go on. Mmm.. maybe I'll cancel that subscription now.

Orlando · 17/05/2006 17:48

There is a hippy-dippy alternative parenting magazine called Juno...

mummydoc · 17/05/2006 17:55

I get it by subscription, but it is in waitrose - i live in herefordshire - it is a little posh but on the whole the articles are great and can be really funny, the travel section is a little bit out of my league but hey i can dream, and i am sick of parenting mags with endless " birth stories" and articles on toilet training.

IlanaK · 17/05/2006 18:01

I like JUnior magazine. I get it by subscription, but a lot of the local shops sell it too. It is good for London if you live there as they have a pull out guide thing to local events (do they do this in other areas of the country?) I like the articles too. I think it is a bit more thought provoking than the average baby mag. Yes, they advertise ridiculously priced stuff, but who cares? You don't have to buy the things!

NotAnOtter · 17/05/2006 18:04

its the only parenting mag i can endure- fashion models a bit too 'sexy' imo and on the whole way too girl-centred!

saadia · 17/05/2006 21:03

I get it from Waitrose and although most of the fashion/holidays/products are totally beyond my budget I like the ethos and find the articles to be very well-informed and really tuned in to the child's point of view.

Posey · 17/05/2006 21:10

You can get it practically everywhere that sells magazines round here.
I've been reading it since it began (8 years) and although a lot of the stuff is out of my price range, I like looking at the expensive fashion, holdays etc.
And the articles are just a bit more intelligent, make you think a bit more than a lot of the parenting magazines.

BTW I also liked the BBC parenting magazine. Anyone else remember M? I think it stood for mother or mum or somesuch, but folded around 7 years ago. Love it.

Jimjamskeepingoffvaxthreads · 17/05/2006 21:10

I used to quite like Junior but now it makes me want to scream, and rip it up, so I don't buy it anymore. Sainsbuy's stock it down here.

Read a copy of Juno- that was quite good, and the green parent or something.

mousiemousie · 17/05/2006 21:11

Junior is a very aspirational mag like Vogue

WHS have it or you can subscribe

CristinaTheAstonishing · 17/05/2006 21:18

The Green Parent is quite good. Not too hippy either.

Orlando · 17/05/2006 21:24

Haven't seen that one.

The articles in Juno are of the same thoughtful and intelligent quality as Junior, but there isn't the horrible consumer aspect.

As mentioned lower down it seems to be entirely London-centric. Though they did a feature on Manchester once, like it was a surprisingly fashionable place they'd discovered.

Angeliz · 17/05/2006 21:26

Sainsburies sell it.
i bought it last week because it had some free reception magnetic fridge words. God i am so shallow!Grin

KateF · 17/05/2006 21:48

Just had a look at Juno's website. It looks good so might subscribe. I used to get one called Natural Parent from Sainsbury's but it seems to have bitten the dust too.

blueamema · 18/05/2006 10:12

what's the juno website

will take a look. Smile

Grin agree with you - I used to subscribe but eventually started loathing the magazine. Vacuous, pseudo-scientific articles, overpriced 'everything', middle-class angst - BLEURGH. Apparently there's a supernanny magazine in the pipeline...
Fauve · 18/05/2006 10:31

Not in the pipeline - on the newstand.

Orlando · 18/05/2006 10:31

Saw the supernanny one at the checkout in the sopermarket the other day, but didn't pick it up. Do you think it'll have a section on beanbags/mini-chairs/squares of carpet to buy for the naughty corner? And ideas for making your own reward chart?

geekgrrl · 18/05/2006 10:32

oh, right. I'll have to look out for that.

hotmama · 18/05/2006 10:36

I have it by subscription. Clothes adverts are a bit ridiculous imo - I want my dd's to look like children not mini-teenagers! but I like the articles esp further reading lists if you are interested.

I was finding other parenting magazinesa bit boring and full of the same stuff.

I suppose Junior is aiming for a more 'upmarket' readership.

Jimjamskeepingoffvaxthreads · 18/05/2006 10:44

exactly geekgrrl.
