I've been using tots bots (the colourful ones ) with the tots bots wraps but the wraps have stained really badly (did not expect nappy wraps to be stained by breastfed baby poo!).
I used to use cotton bottom press-stud style wraps which never stained but only fit a small size range so you have to move up a size quite often.
I've tried motherease one-size and got in a muddle with all the press-studs........
So... can anyone recommend a wrap that doesn't stain (or can at least be bleached if it does), isn't too difficult to put on a squirmy baby, and will fit for a reasonable length of time?

hi bluebear, don't know if these would suit but we use cotton bottoms see here
they do polyester ones (a bit more waterproof) and cotton (lovely soft with a slightly stretchy lining) both really pretty prints (they vary the colours etc practically weekly so you get what they have in stock but we've loved all ours - stars, frogs etc). Big velcro tabs are how they work. Only downside is that I would have to say that we are still at the liquid poo stage and it does leak out a bit but I think it'll get better as things solidify.... not sure what tots bots look like but cotton bottoms 'inners' are either a shaped pad of cotton or a flat square that you fold. we are using a mix of mediums and smalls at the moment (see site for details of sizing but they span several pounds - thirteen to twenty for smalls if I remember and that's quite conservative) and both seem to last well, wash up beautifully at 60 and are a doddle to get on.

thanks squirmyworm - I haven't tried the cotton bottoms velcro ones - the press stud ones always washed well.. forgot they did velcro.
I've found the liquid poo is much less likely to leak using a shaped nappy (like tots bots.. they are shaped around the legs etc rather than the 'prefold' inner that you use with cotton bottoms.
Anymore washable nappy users out there?

I use diaperwraps and an older version of the bambino mio mio-lite from here .
Both fasten with velcro so are easy to get on and are a lovely snug fit with absolutely no leaks. Ds2 is now 15 months, but he's had them since he was 5 months and they've washed well.
I've got away with the occasional hot wash (not tried bleach though) when they've been really yukky, but some of them have ended up with odd orange stains no matter what.

I love the airflow Rikki/motherease poppered wraps (or velcro if you have a squirmer)
They are fabulous.

agree with bloss, PUL stains pink with newborn b/fed poo, and the only way to get it out is sunshine! I tried non-chlorine bleach, but it didn't work.

Are you using paper liners, or fleece? I found that the liquid part of the poo went through the fleece liner much more quickly, so there was less to leak out onto the wrap. Also, are you doing up the nappy snuggly enough? I don't remember having leaks with TOTS (sure I didn't)whereas I did with other types of nappy.

bluebear · 28/01/2004 12:56

Thanks all, looks like sunshine is required!
The tots aren't leaking, the poo got on the wraps when they were put in the nappy bucket with some pooey nappies (wouldn't have done this if I knew that they would stain - but as my cotton bottoms wraps never stained I wasn't expecting it!) Stain is gross yellow - pink would at least be less poo-like!
I use fleece liners - fantastic - used to use paper but I'll never go back now
Tempted to see if a cotton bottom wrap will fit over a tots nappy when I need the next size (okay I admit, partly because of the pretty designs), but will have to call on the sun to bleach my tots wraps until then.

Talking about liners - friends in NZ said that the best thing to use as a wipe are disposable liners dipped in water - I've only seen paper ones here, they said they were disposable but felt like baby wipes when wet.
Anybody have any experience or know of where to get some. Planning on using Cotton Bottoms so was going to use their liners but they don't appear to be the type to be used as a wipe as well.

sorry 'here' being London.

And while there's a real nappy thread here, does anyone know how to get involved in Real Nappy week. I found \linkwww.wen.org.uk/rnw/{}, but I wondered if any mumsnetters were involved.

kiwisbird · 28/01/2004 13:58

try Waitrose they stock the rolls of paper liners you can use as wipes, thats what I use, they are so strong you can even wash them and reuse!
Also thenappylady.co.uk sell them.
I think www.greenbaby.co.uk do as well.

Real nappy Week - sorry!

kiwisbird · 28/01/2004 14:29

I'm involved as part of my NCt branch, I'm hosting a real nappy house party demo.

Best wipes I found are a 10 pack of facecloths from IKEA, cost £1. Wash along with nappies!
I am another fan of sunshine to clean wraps, but it has been in short supply here recently. Ah wekk, people don't see them very often!

bluebear · 29/01/2004 00:04

I use washable wipes - just squares of terry towelling. I moisten them with warm water, and bung them in the nappy wash.

I got the ikea flannels. They are great value but I found them a bit big at first. Best and most economical option was shops own "jay Cloths". We have different colours for different things and they wash well and dry quickly. Now we are weaning and the flannels are better for the more solid poos. Sorry to be a bit graphic

I make my own fleece liners, wipes and wraps. They are really easy and much cheaper, you won't believe the mark up on the liners btw.
Anyway BF poo does stain. As your baby gets older it will become less of a problem and/or it won't bother you as much the longer you use cloth.
I use wool and fleece wraps mainly and occasionally me rikkis.
Tots are my favourite nappies and I have a little collection going on, I'm tempted to buy the pink one just so I've got all of the colours, but I don't think its my ds colour.
Yes I'm ivolved in rnw. Well I'm putting posters up and handing out leaflets anyway.
