Breast pads?

Jasnem · 13/05/2006 21:58

The topic for discussion today on our postnatal thread has been breast pads.
Can anyone recommend the best for wearing under summer clothes without the sound effects of some, or the visibilty of others?
Are reusable ones a good idea? If yes what type and can you give us a link?

TIA Smile

Great idea - may there be an end to my 'over rounded Johnsons bosom' ' rustling sainsburys bosom' and 'clinging breastpad on naked bosom'Smile

Jasnem · 13/05/2006 22:06

I'm going for the "visible through my tshirt Tescos bosom " today.
Hope someone can help, but will check back in the morning, as ds is asleep, and I should be, too.

I use Aventi which have a very useful little sticky bit to prevent the pad from moving. (Don't you hate it when you think you're safely protected and you've a wet patch the size of ireland down your front!)Blush

I also find their absorbency is more superior than the cheapo brands.

You know, I can remember a time when I didnt find things like breast pads really exciting.

flamesparrow · 14/05/2006 04:37

I'm a tommee tippee girl. Also, with the sticky bit, but I don't often use it. They can be a bit rustly at first though.

I tried out cloth ones, but just flooded through them straight away.

Morgan · 14/05/2006 07:16

I wanted to find out which don't show through bra and clothes.

I'm for johnsons after trying others last time.Always found cheaper ones not nice. Bought some thinner ones here( i live in dubai)but found them useless.Have some reuseable avent ones but not tried them yet but they have a lacey cover whigh i imagine would show through. I don't like bras that show through either.

My dd is seven months now, and it's only now that my breasts have stopped exploding every five seconds!

I have tried the following:

Lilypadz - cant see them under the tops, expensive but reusable but I found that if I leant againt my side, the suction would break and any milk already collected would gush down my top. Probably a good thing to use once flow settled down.

Avent reusables - I brought a pack of six and had soaked through all six within a day. Hate them. Highly pattered as well and visible through my top, worst buy I made!

Avent disposables - highly absorbant, no sound effect, hardly visible under the tops. Got the sticky pad thing as well.

Tommee Tipee disposables - sound effects galore but v large so not too visible. Very good absorbancy as well.

Tesco disposables - fairly absorbant but very visible unfortunately.

Morrinson disposables - not very absorbant

Boots reusables - the best reusables I have tried. They wash well, you cant see them under clothes and no sound effects.

HTH!

dewmeadow · 14/05/2006 09:14

Also found the Aventi reusables to be useless and extremely visible.

SoupDragon · 14/05/2006 09:15

Lansinoh ones are pretty good but the fact that they are all individually wrapped in plastic p-ed me off wrt the waste.

Avent reusables are a pile of poo.

Munz · 14/05/2006 09:35

i've tried:

tommee tippee - fab nice and thin but made my boobs itch a bit?? (odd)

Johnsons - nice and padded, bit thick and have a nipple bit - not so good for thin tops as noticeable

aventy reusable - spares in emergancy only! (says it all!)

avent disposable - love these ones but have no shape to them so it's obvious what your wearing! def my overall fave ones.

tescos own - not v good at all, I soaked a pad too quickly and they were a bit small!

alex8 · 14/05/2006 10:36

I loved the avent reusables.

notasheep · 14/05/2006 10:39

Me too,saved a fortune

Elf1981 · 14/05/2006 15:24

I think reusable ones depends on how much you leak.
I was a gusher unfortunately so I soaked through cheap thin ones very quickly, and I found the avent reusable ones quite small, a lot smaller than the Boots reusables.
Plus I hated the pattern, so visible though the top!

Marne · 14/05/2006 15:28

I liked the boots ones best, also the avent reusables.

motherinferior · 14/05/2006 15:31

My only experience of Avent reusables was extremely unfortunate. I shall draw a veil. Unfortunately I didn't have a veil with me at the time.

I ended up just putting a breast pad in on one side as I was about to feed from the other, and then taking it out as discreetly as I could manage.

Elf1981 · 14/05/2006 15:36

lol MI.
Kind of like my experience with Tesco ones.
I was merrily sitting at the dinner table at my parents, whole family there (this is four days after DD was born), and all of a sudden I felt wet, looked down at my top and I looked as if somebody had tipped a bottle of water down one side of me. You could wring out the breastpad. Was probably due to that was the day my milk came in, but I changed them pretty frequently if that's all I had to use!

Forgot to say I used the Johnson ones as well, I found them to be the softest.

Frizbe · 14/05/2006 20:26

Morrisons Pants
Lansinoh and Boots Ultra Thin ones, both rustle a bit, but have sticky pad and absorb well.

Jasnem · 14/05/2006 20:28

Frizbe - I read that as a recommendation for knickers from Morrisons.Grin

Thanks to everyone who's posted. I've bought Boots reusables now, they are reasonably comfortable and not visible through my clothes...I'm happy so far.

NotAnOtter · 15/05/2006 18:41

tbh i dont find that sticky pad works? does anyone?
I do like johnsons best but they make boobs look fake and over big...also to me feel like a dark moist breeding ground but i am not about to start washing boobs each feed!

SoupDragon · 15/05/2006 18:44

The sticky pad is useless IME.

Jasnem · 15/05/2006 18:57

Sticky pad is a useless gimmick.

OP posts:
Tinker · 15/05/2006 18:59

I use the sticky pad at night to attach it to a t shirt. Bit of a gusher still at 12 months and only Tommee Tippee or Lansinoh will do.
