don't body shop do a makeover thing for free?

Hulababy · 25/01/2004 20:01

Virgin Vie do you a free make over if you ask them. Just say you want a new look and not sure what to do. No obligation to buy either. Done there and then in the shop. I think Virgin Viw also do parties at your house if you want and you have them done there.

House of Frazer - different counters offer different offers. Some are free if you buy at least one produc; others you pay for regardless.

Bobby Brown do a good one - well I think so A 45 min makeover/makeup lession which is £10 redemable against anything you buy If you like nice makeup then it is really good. Products are great, but very subtle and wearable. Or Mac in Selfridges which is fabm, but more 'fashion' Dickens and Jones in Regent st did my mum for a b'day pressie and we spent over an hour and just £0 on a couple of things for her and me. Prodcust are pricey though

I had a make-up lesson. My lovely next door neighbour bought me vouchers for a beauty salon as a birthday gift. I had no idea what to spend them on since I am not one of these manicured maidens! But I thought this might be a good idea since I have been using the same makeup since I was 14 (and I'm now 42!)

I thought it was worth it. The beautician showed me how to use makeup I had never used, like lip liner and eyebrow pencil, and she showed me how to use all the brushes and sponges and stuff. Also she advised me how much of each product to use, techniques for applying it and the right colours to suit my skin and hair. She taught me about cleansing and moisturising my skin too. I was a soap and water girl and used moisturiser only if my skin felt dry. I used to get a lot of spots but she explained that the spots were caused by my intermittent moisturising, since when my skin was dry it would produce copious quantities of oil to try and redress the balance. I now don't get very many spots and so it was worth it just for that, let alone the other advice.

On the down side, I went out and spent £50 on makeup the next day But my dh was in the doghouse so he didn't dare say a word .

I don't often wear the full makeup she taught me to do, but if I want to I know how to do it now. And the cleansing and moisturising advice was brilliant.

I had my lesson at a little local salon in Herts, I think it cost about £20 or £25 for an hour.

Another vote for Bobbi Brown. I had a make up session for my wedding and told the girl I was doing it myself on the day, so she talked me through everything she was doing. I wasn't pressured at all into buying anything. I did buy the whole lot in the end though and 4 years later after using the stuff every day, I've still got all the eye make up, blusher, bronzer and concealer. I should really replace it all now. But you do get what you pay for - fantastic stuff

Bobbi Brown in great IMO. The counter girls are the only ones I've seen who look beautiful - not like scary sea-monsters.
