skinnier cut clothes for boys - where??

my five year old boy is tall and skinny (though not freakily big!). I have to buy a size or two up for length, but then he gets swamped as the width is all wrong!

are any brands cut skinnier than others? so far H&M seems better than Tescos for example, but what do you all think?

the skinnier cut the better!

no idea but if you find out letme know because i have the sdame problem!

Vertbaudet are quite skinny cut - I buy a lot of elasticated waistband things for skinny DS1 from there.

scotlou · 12/05/2006 12:45

Both Gap and Zara do boys trousers with adjustable elastic in teh waistband. Gap also do slim fit jeans. My ds can now wear trousers that actually fit his long legs and don't fall down to his knees!

Petit Bateau are always small. My DS - 3 - is in 6 year old clothes.

Vertbaudet would be a good bet too I would think.

DS is bigger than average but for DD who is skinny - Mothercare smaller sizes fit her well. She is 2.3 but still in 18-24 month Mothercare things with plenty of room.

H and M definitely, tesco hopeless. Some Next trousers are slimmer cut and has adjustable waist and M and S have some adjustable waist school shorts atm.

foxinsocks · 12/05/2006 13:08

M&S school shorts are very good. I've just got 2 pairs and they fit really nicely. I would take ds with you because they are a reasonable length so you may get away with buying an age 4.

I have a skinny boy and find the Gap adjustable stuff is made so wide to start with and when it's adjusted it tends to hurt ds's waist!

FrannyandZooey · 12/05/2006 13:11

Vertbaudet always skinny IME. The supermarkets, and Next, just seem to be ludicrously wide.

Anything French, as others have said. Find American stuff (Gymboree, Gap) very boxy, no matter how nice the design.
Try Vertbaudet and also La Redoute has childrenswear.
Ds looks like he is wearing a puffball skort after I have finished hoicking in his Gap shorts. Not a good look for a six year old in the burbs Wink

cod · 12/05/2006 13:14

oddly some marks ans psencer stuff is good

aslo adams
nexta dn tesco too huge

cod · 12/05/2006 13:14

BUT NExt flat front school shorts are great

elliott · 12/05/2006 13:20

Another one here! My ds is also short for his age as well as having a waist I can almost encircle in my hands (he's 4.5). I find H&M hopeless actually. My mainstay as others have said is vertbaudet and la redoute - but has to be with adjustable elastic waist (NOT the maternity type adjustable waist, they don't work very well).

Other than that I find that I just opt for styles that look right - there does seem to be huge variation even in the same shop. I have found good skinny fits in adams and next, but I have to look them out - most stuff doesn't fit. He is just growing out of some 3 yr old trousers from next and adams....
I'm glad its summer as shorts are much easier to deal with...

C&A Germany does an Extra Schlank (slim) range for boys, if you're passing. Branches in most German cities and big towns.

jenkel · 12/05/2006 13:32

I find for my tall and skinny 3 1/2 year old dd that H&M are generally good, M&S are huge for her, Next can be a bit iffy, Gap seems OK but the best bet is Pumpkin Patch.
