Present for 11 year old girl?

I am completely out of touch with what 11 year-old girls like these days. She's very girlie, into pink and fluffy kittens. Has outgrown Polly Pocket and the like. I only want to spend between £5-£10. Any ideas?

Bratz-My friend's dd is 11 and loves anything to do with them, failing that maybe something girlie from Claire's or a voucher for topshop.

My sister who is 11 is really into reading, big-stylee. Tho I reckon she may be in the minorty, not that I know many 11 year olds but there can't be many who will sit for hours on end reading!

Top up voucher for a mobile phone.

Also I think at that age they love to recieve money, or if she does'nt have one yet, buy her a purse and put £5 in it.

something creative like a card making kit?

am old stick in the mud and say book token - she can choose Bratz sticker books if she likes, or proper novel.
Or Smiths tokens - books or cool pencil case etc for school.

Have always found tokens go down well with the newly-independent shopper...

Jewellery making kit.

Mum2Ela - What books does she read? I like giving books as presents.

Claire's is a good idea too. They do handbags as well don't they?

The recipient is the daughter of DH's cousin so I don't know her too well but they always send presents for DD & DS so I usually send something back.

I find it hard spending a small amount as you usually end up getting something which is a waste of time.

I tend to go for things like a trendy/pretty notebook and pen, that kind of thing. Woollies is actually quite good for that.

My 11 yr old dd loves claire's although she has far too many hair accessories/ jewellery already. She also loves reading,we can't buy her enough books. Smile

charm bracelet - trendy at the moment, and Claire's sell chain bracelets, plus charms separately so you can pick some to suit the child (like kittens, or initials) and she can add to it later.

Really like Waterfalls' idea of the purse with £5 in - my 11 yr old would love that. Or hair accessories, lip balm, little packet of tissues, small soap and shampoo etc, all in a cute basket or handbag?

EmmyLou · 12/05/2006 23:17

Something from Next would go down well with my 11 year old - or some cheap (ha!) accessory from Fat Face. She would consider herself way too old for a Bratz. Book are always welcome but if you don't know what she has then vouchers give her freedom and control (sorry, sounds like tampon ad...) and travel well by post.

Claires vouchers always a bit hit - Princess Diary books!! Any kind of trendy t-shirt!
Jewellery!!! ( and my 11 year old would like a signed photo of Johnny Depp!!!!)
