I admit I am not in any way into technology, but \link{http://www.htfr.com/more-info/?catno=MR177006#image\this thingy} looked fantastic to me (saw it in the paper yesterday).

Dh just grunted 'oh, yeah so what' but I think it's great. I've got so many favourite old LP's I never play any more.

Thanks for the info, v useful.

Good idea but very pricey.

It is possible to connect most hi-fi systems to the computer without spending that amount of cash, you just need the right combination of input/output cables and a good amplifier to boost the turntable output.

I read the title as Disgusting old vinyl records, lol.

Time I wasn't here Grin

Saintgeorge you are a mine of information! Grin

SaintGeorge · 08/05/2006 12:20

With a very big vinyl collection, slowly getting transferred to CDs hence the knowledge Grin

\link{http://www.maplin.co.uk/module.aspx?TabID=1&criteria=audio%20capture&ModuleNo=32578&doy=8m5\Not exactly} the right ones I don't think, would have to check with DH. Something very similar though, available from good audio/computer dealers.

bramblina · 08/05/2006 12:29

Yeah, I prefer the £5.99 part!

TinyGang · 08/05/2006 13:21

Oh well done StGeorge! A much better price too - thanks for the link.

So you are transferring all your records onto cd? I would like to do that too - is the sound quality ok or are the little imperfections you get on vinyl magnified on cd?

Imperfections no worse than on the original vinyl - so just what you expect to hear really. Depending on which software you use to do the transfer you can iron out some of the hisses, but I like to hear the original sound so I don't mess too much with it.

Let me check with DH before you go buying though - don't want you getting the wrong wires and cursing me! Wink

Slightly more expensive, depending on the length of cable you need, but apparently the right one \link{http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?TabID=1&DOY=8m5&ModuleNo=35928&criteria=\this time}.

In fact, if you look at the FAQ section someone asks about transferring vinyl etc and the supplier confirms this cable should do it.

That's so nice of you StGeorge - thanks! Could be a little project for me when I get a bit of timeSmile
