Hi,
I have been tie dying t-shirts and childrens clothes, tights, socks etc for a while for myself and friends, but am wondering if I could sell some at reasonable prices. All opinions welcome please Smile

I'd be interested in learning how to do it, just for fun.

A friend tie-dyed loads of clothes for the DDs and they get lots of compliments.

Twiglett · 06/05/2006 16:15

I have a dylon tie-dye kit I've never used .. it cost me £9.99 .. I opened the box to look inside but never got round to using it because I like painting them more Grin .. you can have it for what it cost me if you want expat .. just cat me

jac34 · 06/05/2006 16:26

I was thinking of getting some tie-dye t shirts for my DSs.My one son has an awful, yuk green, tie dye top,he wears in winter(can't get it off him),so I thought he might like a summer top in a more pleasing colour.Smile

Twiglett · 06/05/2006 16:36

actually strike that expat .. they've obviously lowered their prices since I bought it \link{http://www.fredaldous.co.uk/cgi-bin/trolleyed_public.cgi?action=showprod_DYTIEDYE\get this for a starter kit}

charliecat · 06/05/2006 16:49

Whats reasonable prices bensmum?

Posey · 06/05/2006 16:56

We did them for the school fete. Got packs of white T-shirts and sleepsuits when they were 3for2 in M&s or Woolies. Tie-dyed them in various colours and made a big profit (about doubling our outlay). I love doing them. Good luck!

I have to confess I like tie dye for me, takes me back to my younger days! Last winter I was looking for a tie dye long sleeved top but couldnt find one in my size, there were a few on ebay though, so check out the competition.

bensmum, I would LOVE this for my DS, I can't find nice brightly coloured fun clothes for boys anoy more, just mini-teenager/sk8ter boy stuff which I hate.

Think this sort of thing is really cute on kids, so go for it!

CristinaTheAstonishing · 06/05/2006 19:07

I'd be interested for DS(6) and DD(1). Could you CAT me about it? Thanks.

bensmum3 · 07/05/2006 09:27

Sounds like I could give it a go. charliecat I wouldn't want to make much out of it, just do it for fun, the t-shirts I could probably sell for ? £3-5, each, light summer dresses for £5-6, adults t-shirts for £7, something like that.
Thankyou for the link to bulk buys.Smile

peaches27, thats how I started, I did a couple of tops for myself, then my children wanted them, and a friend asked me to do one for her and her dh and children, we always get lots of compliments when we wear them, and Iam inspired now by the opinions from you all.

Skribble · 07/05/2006 10:26

Thanks CHarliecat great link for the T-shirts, trying to think what I can do with 100+ t-shirts now to sell on my stall {grin].

charliecat · 07/05/2006 14:17

Ok bensmum, can I have a 5-6 t-shirt in pinky/purply colours, and a 8-9 in the same :)
My email is [email protected]. Thanks :)
If you havent got any Ts in those sizes we will work something out, my kids are hardly ever in clothes that fit lol

charliecat · 07/05/2006 14:18

Skribble, you could sell at the same time fabric pens...or source the tie die kits cheap and sell as party bundles???

spidermama · 07/05/2006 14:19

I like tie dye clothes and have been known to to my own. They go quite well on Ebay.

Skribble · 07/05/2006 22:58

Thanks Charlie, I like the idea of party kits, my party stuff goes quite well on Ebay so perhaps kits would too.

charliecat · 08/05/2006 12:47

If I could work my way through the self employed forms that what I would be doing :)

jmb1964 · 09/05/2006 00:33

Great idea - I do them as a rainy day project for our children. I'm sure there are lots of people out there who like tie-dye stuff but can't face all the hassle.
I always sling in all their underwear which has gone grey in the wash too, comes out a treat! (but dh didn't like the time I turned half his hankies bright turquoise Grin)

bensmum3 · 09/05/2006 21:36

ChristinaTheAstonishing I need to set up a CAT, will try and do so tomorrow,Charliecat I have emailed.
I might try ebay, not really had much to do with it,but will certainly have a look.I will try and remember to dig out dh's wash accidents (He turned all dd's and ds's underwear grey) next time I do some tie dye and stick those in afterwards Grin

Hiya.
An idea of what they would go for see here.
\link{http://www.buppy.co.uk\Tie-dye clothes}

It could really work I think if you promote them enough. Maybe you could link with your school and offer a comission if they give out flyers for you?

good luck
From Suzi

bensmum3 · 10/05/2006 21:53

Thankyou for that Suzi, some nice designs on that site. Linking with school might not be very productive as there are only 6 children, 2 of whom are mine.Grin I will keep thinking though, maybe flyers in the local shops etc.

OP posts:
moondog · 10/05/2006 22:03

I would.
I'd like them for me too (being an old hippy) but dh has banned me from wearing it now I am 39.
Says it is unseemly and undignified in a woman of my advanced years.

He is scared that I will growmy arm pit hair until it resembles steel wool and start dancing and swaying up at the front on my own at any musical event.

Miaou · 10/05/2006 22:10

could you sell them in the craft shop bensmum?

bensmum3 · 10/05/2006 22:29

Shock Moondog, I still wear mine at shh, 38yrs, dh did complain once when I put my hair (on my head) in pigtails at the same time though Grin
Maybe miaou.
