New car time again

Well it is time to change the car again. When ds twins were born they didn't quite fit into my beloved Ka so we had to get a Mondeo rep-mobile! Because of the situation we got stung quite badly on finance. Now we can hand the car back with no repercusions we can get a car we want!

So now I have to go through the mind-numbing awfulness of trawling around car showrooms. I have no idea about cars and despite working in car hire DH is pretty clueless too. So, bearing in mind we are on a budget, here are the options:

Vauxhall Zafira
Skoda Fabia estate
Nissan Tino
Renault Scenic (old shape of course)
Vauxhall Meriva
Ford Focus estate

Feedback would be greatfully received!

Also, while I have been thinking about it. Our last car was from Peoples, who I now wouldn't send my worst enemy to! I wouldn't go near Arnold Clark for the same reason.

Has anyone got any comments on Reg Vardy (as they, like Peoples, have the monopoly on certain makes of cars here.)

Can't advise on Reg Vardys but dp has a Focus (not estate though) and loves it. More than us I suspect. Friend has a Meriva and swears by it as an easy-to-park tardis of a car. Personally I did swear by my ancient mondeo estate, but as its ancient and the repair bills are going up i find i'm increasingly swearing AT it.

Going to bump this up as I need to know so we don't make an expensive mistake!

I have got a ford focus estate and it is great - not so massive I find it impossible to part without taking out several other cars and yet big enough to get 2 buggies in the back with loads of shopping. Leg room at back is good and generally I find it a good car - I have the 1.6 and would say that it is fine for urban driving but when loaded up with stuff, on motorways it lacks a bit of punch when accelerating. I would definitely get another but go for 1.8 just for the feeling of power!!

have a zafira - get a new one with three three point harnesses in row one. NOt sexy but drives very well and parks easily in medieval cathedral city with associated parking probs!
