There's one from Piz Buin \link{http://www.boots.com/shop/product_details.jsp?productid=1058647&classificationid=1009327&slmRefer=000\here} that we've used on DD (6) for school. There's also another one, but can't remember what it's called.

prettybird · 02/05/2006 11:48

\link{http://www.ultrasun.co.uk/\Ultrasun} is the best I've found (and protects against UVA and UBB). You can get it from John Leiws.

I prefer the sensitive skin formulation.

It's not cheap - a bottleis aobut £18 - but then you only have to apply it once a day.

P20 is one of the other ones - you can also find it in Superdrug, but it only protects against UVA.

GDG · 02/05/2006 12:04

Oh thanks both. I think it was the P20 that I was thinking of but looks like the Ultrasun is best if protects against both UVA and UVB. Is it really only once a day? I'd feel like I needed to apply more than that - does it really protect all day do you find?

prettybird · 02/05/2006 12:14

It really does protect you all day - but the ting you need to watch is that you have made sure to cover all exposed skin. If you miss at patch - then that's it for the day!

Both the 17 (Sensitive ) and the 28( Supersensitive) creams are good - it has some titanimum in it, so it also gives a nice sheen to the skin. It goes on nicely too. It also deosn't sting in the same way as the 20 (liquid, sports formula) does - ds really objects if I try and put that on his face.

GDG · 02/05/2006 12:17

Wow, that's good to know! Don't want one that stings!

Thanks a lot - will go to chemist tomorrow as it seems they stock it! Hurrah!

Boots have started making their own 'apply once' suncream - Soltan. It's supposed to work for 6 hours per day

Passionflower · 02/05/2006 13:54

Soltan one has 5 UVA protection, I the Piz Bruin is only 3 UVA. However I know that the Piz Bruin works cos a friends DH used it when running the Marathon des Sables across the sahara. Grin

JackieNo · 02/05/2006 13:55

Blimey Passionflower - impressive (your friend's DH and the Piz BuinGrin)!

Laura032004 · 02/05/2006 13:57

I've used the Piz Buin one for the last year, and it works really well. Would highly recommend it.

fruitful · 02/05/2006 14:02

Check the wording on the Soltan bottle. Dh got some Soltan that says "12 hour moisturising sun spray" in big letters on the front. The small print on the back says you have to reapply every 2 hours for sun protection. But it keeps moisturising for 12 hours! Sneaky beggars.

SoupDragon · 02/05/2006 14:02

I used Piz Buin last year too. Was great. Perfect for school where you can apply it in the morning and know your child will be OK for the day. I'll definitely be using it (or the Boots one!) again this year.

Gingerbear · 02/05/2006 14:07

we like bergaderm (used to be proderm) mousse. Non greasy and lasts up to 6 hours. DD and I use SPF 30:
\link{http://www.sun-togs.co.uk/products/526\here but you can buy it in Sainsbo's}

Passionflower · 02/05/2006 16:10

Friends DH is impressive, he's just done a walk to the north pole for charity as well. Smile

Seona1973 · 02/05/2006 19:56

The new soltan one is called Soltan Once and is expensive at about £11 a bottle. I considered buying it as boots are doing BOGOF on soltan products at the moment but chickened out and got the normal ones instead.

This is the blurb from the website for SPF 30:

Protection
SPF 30 reduces the burning effect of the sun by up to 30 times, provided the product is applied generously. 1 Application will last up to six hours of normal use.

Advice
Apply generously using approximately 3 tablespoonsful of product for the entire body. Rub in and allow 15 minutes before exposure to the sun. One application allows 40 minutes of water exposure in 6 hours. Reapply if you spend more time in the water. This product is designed for normal wear but should be reapplied after towelling dry or other abrasive contact.

hulababy · 02/05/2006 19:59

I was looking at this but advised it isn't particularly useful in humid places - anyone found this? Just think it'd be so much easier to use on holiday, especially with DD.

Milliways · 02/05/2006 20:11

\link{http://www.sun-togs.co.uk/products/526\Proderm} is easy to apply & lasts 6 hours.

We hated P20 - took ages to dry & stank!

shazronnie · 02/05/2006 20:29

I tried p20, but wasn't at all keen either.

Tutter · 02/05/2006 20:39

P20 awesome but stains things orange (like towels)

prettybird · 03/05/2006 08:45

Used Ultrasun in humid places (Suth Africa and Greece in high summer) and didn't have any problem.

Have to admit that occasionally, after the cream had a chance to "react", I did put an extra layer of "ordinary" sun protection on, just in case I had missed any bits. Belt and braces!

Daisymae · 03/05/2006 09:22

Piz Buin is really effective and is on sale for about a fiver at chain called Savers (don't know if nationwide or just in our region) I've used it while in and out of the sea in Cornwall, though an umbrella was more useful, and Greece and had no sun burn at all.
BTW love Cornwall Grin
We were there the week before that village was submerged so as you can imagine lots of rain, but we've been back twice since as I can't resist the Eden Project's siren call!!

hulababy · 03/05/2006 18:05

Thanks, will have a look at the Ultrasun
