Micro scooter for 4 y/o

I'm thinking of getting DS a micro scooter for his birthday. Someone has told me that its better to get a proper adult one than one of the kids ones as they are tougher/ last longer etc (apparently you can get them off ebay so don't have to fork out £££s for them).

Also what about the 2 wheel in front, 1 wheel behind types that are specially designed for kids?

Advice/ stories & tips please.

Is he short/tall for his age? Does he have a reasonable sense of balance?

DD is not particularly athletic, and got an adult scooter for her 5th birthday. She is getting the hang of it now, but it took a bit of practice.

Does your ds have a bike with stabilisers? That's what dd got for her 4th, as at that point she would have been too uncoordinated for a scooter.

Hi my dd got a scooter for her 3rd birthday but it wasnt a micro scooter as I felt there wasnt enough in them to stop them tipping over. She got a 3 wheeled one it is was great. her sister who is now 3 plays with it now.#

We got DS a three-wheeler when he was 3 and a bit - perfect for that age, much easier to master than the two wheeler and it doesn't fall over when they lose interest. Another advantage of the micro bobbi board scooter is that it is all plastic, so when they whack you round the shins it doesn't hurt as much. Plus it disassembles so you can put it in the bottom of the buggy. On the other hand it has a limited shelf life - until they are about 5 or 6 i think. DH has a micro scooter which is made of metal and DS can ride that now (at 4.5). So if your DS is reasonably co-ordinated, you may want a "proper" scooter - certainly these dominate the playground now.

My mum got ds1 a micro scooter a few months ago. It took him a few days to get the hang of it as the ones they have at nursery are 3-wheelers, but now he zooms off adn is ven trying to do wheelies. He's 4.

I can't offer any advice as to whether adult ones are better though, sorry.

Thanks for replies so far, particularly florenceuk points re plastic scooter - usually go for the most indestructible item but maybe plastic is better in this instance.

Any more advice would be welcome.
