i bought a small pillow for kids in ikea for a few pounds when DD was a year old.

mcmudda · 01/05/2006 14:20

I got a cot sized one for ds from Mothercare when he turned one.

Have since lost it (how can you lose a pillow??) and will get another one for dd when she's one. Have now spotted Vertbaudet sell them as do Spirit of Nature.

seriouslystressedspacecadet · 01/05/2006 14:23

jamie-how old is your dd?

74Jamie · 01/05/2006 14:25

why would you bother though?

I thought it was better for them to sleep flat .. and the amount they move around they would hardly stay on a pillow would they?

Twiglett · 01/05/2006 14:25

I'd use a normal pillow at 2

seriouslystressedspacecadet · 01/05/2006 14:27

i would just use a normal pillow then, you dont need a baby pillow at this stage imo baby pillows are a waste of money. if she is happy with no pillow, dont use one at all, its better for their necks.

74Jamie · 01/05/2006 14:27

its just that she uses her teddy as a pillow - by herself everynight and cries for it if she doesnt have it so i thpught wed get her one plus i thought they had to have s apecial one that was speial due to cot deasth so they can breathe thru it if it went on top of their head?

DS has a flattish adult pillow, and it definitely helps him to sleep better when he's got a cold.

KTeePee · 01/05/2006 14:29

If you do want a smaller than normal one, John Lewis usually do them (but you might have to ask for it as they often don't keep them on display so that they can check that it is for an older child, not a baby)

Laura032004 · 01/05/2006 14:31

I don't think the cot death thing is so much of an issue once they get to 2 years.

expatinscotland · 01/05/2006 14:32

I used an ordinary one. But we splashed out on a lovely, high quality down one she can use for years. She loves her pillow!

Cot death isn't an issue for a 2-year-old, no.

Skribble · 01/05/2006 22:13

I would just buy a cheap one as the hances of it getting puke or pee on it are very high, mine have been replaced loads of times, some are washable but they are never the same once washed.

aelita · 02/05/2006 12:15

\link{http://www.spiritofnature.co.uk/cgi-bin/sh000001.pl?REFPAGE=http%3a%2f%2fwww%2espiritofnature%2eco%2euk%2f&WD=pillow&SHOP=%20&PN=sect7403%2ehtml%23a3711#a3711\this} site does them, though they're far from cheap. DS has used the baby pillow for ages - a flattish one with raised edges (it's fully washable) and loved it from the beginning - all it does really is provide a more comfy surface without raising their heads so far as to be bad for their necks.

starlover · 02/05/2006 12:20

i was going to ask the same thing... you used to be able to get quite flat pillows, but nowhere seems to have them now.

ds is only 15 months, but every night he either uses his rabbit, or his duvet or his cot bumper as a pillow. the latter usually results in much head banging on top of cot!

So I figured he might like a pillow, but I think an ordinary one is going to be much too big

aelita · 02/05/2006 12:22

Starlover, that link I just gave has a flat pillow...

robin3 · 02/05/2006 12:26

We gave DS a pillow when he got a duvet. He's 2.4. He likes the idea of it but can't sleep with it. He ends up snuggling down so his head is off it. Needless to say we don't even offer it up now.

starlover · 02/05/2006 12:30

oh yes sorry aelita! missed that. doh

it is very expensive isn't it!!!!

i wonder if i could just make him one

Bozza · 02/05/2006 12:34

Babies R Us have them. I bought one for DD for some reason - can't remember what. She refuses to be put down on it, but then creeps up onto it in the night.

JackieNo · 02/05/2006 12:37

The White Company sell them too (at least cot bed ones) I think, although their website is 'down for maintenance' at the moment, and has been all weekend, as far as I can seeAngry. Wanted to order stuff.

Just to add a word of caution - Please, please, please check the inside of the pillowcase for loose threads if you are going to use a baby pillow - you know the overlocking bit. My DD was sound asleep and woke up screaming, a thread from the pillowcase had wound itself around her neck several times and had actually cut her skin:( Lucky we heard her cries. This was a pillowcase brought from a reputable department store. So just make an extra check - it's worth it.
