I have found that for products to be classified as Organic(labelled)they only need to have a small percentage of organic ingredients in them.I am really referring to cosmetics, oils etc.i don't know what the percentage is..does anyone on mn know? Also i am quite surprised by this.Does anyone else feel the same or couldn't you care less?Smile

that is odd... i don't use organic cosmetics and things, so doesn't botrher me that much

i suppose a lot of things used in cosmetics can't be organic anyway

I was just surprised..like essential oils as well come under this category. With some products its hard to find out the Organic amount.I was thinking particularly of products for babies and children as the market is pretty big.and not sure that some of the products are as Organic as they seem from the packaging.Just have to read the ingredients i suppose!

You need to read the label carefully. If the product is Soil Association certified and carries their logo on a product then a product which says it is "Organic" has to be made of 95% organic ingredients. Soil Association logo and label saying "made with organic ingredients" means that over 70% ingredients need to be organic. The non-organic ingredients such as emulsifiers, preservatives & foaming agents that are necessary in some types of creams, lotions & shampoos, need to be from a list of approved other ingredients. But I don't think there are currently any restrictions under EU law to stop companies using the word "organic" on their products.

\Soil Association} have a list of companies who have certification. To confuse matters further there are a number of companies whose products do contain a high percentage of organic products but who haven't applied for SA certification eg The Organic Pharmacy, Akamuti, Earthbound Organics, Barefoot Botanicals.
