hair straighteners

For the first time in my adult life I almost have long hair - just touching my shoulders, but having a baby and moving to somewhere where it rains every day Angry has made it frizzy, so could do with a hair straightener recommendation. I've never used them, so are they any good and if they are, what should I go for?

I wouldn't be without my hair straightners and I'm sure many others will agree.

I got mine from ebay (a GHD rip off) I really loved them until I stayed with my mum a couple of weeks ago and used her GHD straightners for a few days.

They are by far the best. Yes they are expensive but worth every penny IMO.

GHD's - DEFFO!

gothicmama · 30/04/2006 16:27

where is a good place to buy ghd straighteners

peachygirl · 30/04/2006 16:29

I have a pair of babyliss ones with mirror type glass plates I find them to be very good they have a holder to put them in which I also like. If going for ceramic ones, solid plates (as opposed to ceramic coated)are seen to be better. Boots online seesm to have some offers on at the moment

good god - I've just done a search and they're about £80!!!!! (have never spent that much on my hair..!) Don't suppose Tesco's do a cheap but just-the-same equivalent?!

Dotty, dont do it!! I have the curliest locks ever but GHDs do it for me everytime! Id say ive tried pretty much every brand and type of straightener over the years but once I discovered GHDs there is no going back. Buy some, you'll love em!!

pussycatmomma · 30/04/2006 16:32

i know they are hellishly expensive, but they are SO worth it.

Dottydot · 30/04/2006 16:33

Only GHDs will do the job I'm afraid. I've had a couple of sets of straighteners and these are by far the best - well worth the investment.

pussycatmomma - hadn't read your message before I posted - now I don't know - they could be a wedding present to myself?! Grin

I have just checked out ebay and there is a good seller on there, selling them for £68 and they have loads.

They really are worth it.

peachygirl · 30/04/2006 16:36

Honestly I had some ceramic ones and my babyliss ones are just as good but then my hair isn't that long and isn't that curly just a bit frizzy/ wavy. However looking on the site they don't seem to make them any more!

You cannot go wrong with the GHD's - my other half bought them as a pressie for me two Christmases ago and what I love about them is that once you straighten your hair you don't have to do it again till you next wash it. (That's my experience, anyhow). I have long course hair with a kink and they have been a godsend. Look on eBay. If your hair is thick and long go for the wider plated ones as they cut the straightening time in half. Expect to pay around £60 on eBay for them, and don't forget to use the iron spray with them as this protects your hair and prevents static, too!

Another vote for GHD's. I'm on my 4th set of useless cheap one's and I'm saving up for my very own GHD's!

peaches27 · 30/04/2006 20:09

I bought GHDs about 3 years ago and they are great. They were expensive, but they are the best.
