can't think how else to describe it. Child is 9 but small for age so doesn't want car seat but the seatbelt is in a bad position on the neck and it worries me. I have looked everywhere for something suitable for an older child but can't find anything, can anyone help? Please and thank you!

oh I thought they were bringing in legislation to say any child under 11 must be in a booster seat (might help if trying to encourage child into a seat)

misdee · 29/04/2006 08:51

sorry, but you need to say 'i'm the adult, and for your own safety you must sit on a booster seat' let her choose one (mothercare do some pink ones if she is girly for abour £15).

I was in a car crash 2years ago. i am around 5ft 3. the seat belt ripped into my neck, despite it being set at the lowest point possible. i suffered whiplash and severe bruising. its not something i would want a child t go through.

Missdee I agree but dd gets very bad back ache when in seat for too long so this seemed best solution until neck started being a problem, it's the seats in the car they are the wrong shape!

Brill Twiglett thank you so much.

tbh, i'd put up with the backache.

rey, think you need to check out the new legislation. The law is about to change (September?) and all children under 5ft/150cm (?) will have to use either a child car seat or appropriate booster seat. Not sure of the exact details - perhaps someone else does?

Seona1973 · 29/04/2006 19:31

the new regulations can be found here: \link{http://www.dft.gov.uk/stellent/groups/dft_rdsafety/documents/page/dft_rdsafety_611257.hcsp\New car seat law from September 2006}

reiver · 29/04/2006 20:09

Thanks Seona1973 - that's useful info.

Well, rey it looks as if you're going to need a booster seat of some sort.

GDG · 29/04/2006 20:12

Gosh, agree with misdee and I'd make her sit in a high backed booster. Her safety is paramount - I'd put up with the complaining personally - better that than a serious injury, or worse, in the event of a crash.

GDG · 29/04/2006 20:14

Or at least a booster cushion - all that does is raise her up so that the seatbelt is correctly positioned.

The hugit can be put near the belt buckle to change the angle of the seatbelt so it doesn't go so high, also use it for those houdini's that are younger.
