Present ideas for dd's fifth birthday

OK, so you're probably all bored with "what can I buy for birthdays" threads but I need help! I haven't got a clue - plus both my parents and MIL want me to tell them what to buy as well, so I have three times the present finding to do.

We were going to get her a bike but she told us last week that she doesn't think she wants one, she's happy with her scooter instead.

She likes pink, fluffy and girlie, but also plays with forts, cranes and trains - but we have a houseful of that sort of stuff.

What went down well with your 5 year old dds?

DD is completely mesmerised by board games at the moment. Her favourite is Monopoly Jr. I also got her one of those Leapster L-Max handheld games for long journeys .... it's sort of like a vaguely educational gameboy and she loves it.

I haven't come across the Leapster L-Max, might investigate - thanks, Earlybord.

seeing as I have just suggested this on another thread... how about a little charm bracelet? or other proper jewellery... but designed for kids.

Earlybird · 27/04/2006 13:10

WWB - I got dd's in America, but I know you can buy them on Amazon.

Is she into art and craft? If so how about a set of storage drawers on wheels filled with art and craft stuff? Might also solve that problem of where to keep stuff like that if you have that problem. My friends daughter had one years ago and loved it -still uses it now aged 10.

I think Crayola do one with stuff in but I'm sure it would be more fun to fill it with stuff yourself.

\link{http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/0173425.htm\This type of thing} but I'm sure you could get nicer ones elsewhere.

WigWamBam · 27/04/2006 13:19

She would probably only break the jewellery, starlover Grin

I haven't got a clue. She has so much stuff already! She likes reading and maths, so I'd suggest books to MIL, but given that the books MIL has given her in the past have always been inappropriate that might not be such a good idea.

Monopoly might work; she's into board games.

Oh bum, I really don't know!

Betty, she's got boxes of arty/crafty stuff already - thanks for the suggestion though.

book tokens from relatives? bit boring to open on the day, but at least she could go and choose her own books

WigWamBam · 27/04/2006 13:27

Mmmmn, yes ... would solve the inappropriate books from MIL problem, I guess!

Theatre tokens? YOu could take her to see something later in the year (if that wouldn't be too disappointing for her?) We bought DD tickets to see Cinderella on Ice for her 5th birthday, and Snow White on Ice (see the theme...) for her 6th - although her birthday was in January, the performance isn't till May sometime.

How about something from Barefoot Books? there was a bookstall at our under 5s group yesterday and the books and artwork is beautiful. Lots of "proper" fairytales/pirate stories. Got a bit carried away myself. I think you can order online, but they've got catalogues and local reps too.

I've been wondering if DD (also 5) is old enough to enjoy a trip to see Lion King performed onstage. She loves the movies, and has many Lion King related toys which are real favourites. Would your dd enjoy that?

No idea where you are btw, and of course, not sure that theatre tickets for a fixed date in the future solve the "how to thrill her on the day" dilemma...

WigWamBam · 27/04/2006 14:32

The only thing coming up near here is Chitty Chitty Bang Bang in August and we already have tickets (going on dh's birthday; won't that be nice for him Wink).

Ohhhh, this is so frustrating, I just don't know what to suggest for them to get her.

does she like baking? maybe a little baking set and apron or something?

WigWamBam · 27/04/2006 16:29

Someone bought her one of those for Christmas ... [frustrated emoticon]
