Anyone know anything about child bike trailers

Thinking of getting one for the school run. Have to travel about mile and half each way.

Wondered how good they were and how safe?

Need to transport DD aged 5 and DS aged 2 and half.

Thanks!

I have one. Plenty of room for ds (4) and dd (2), but I only tow dd. I don't like using it in v. heavy traffic, but that might be just me. I greatly prefer it to the bike seat for a heavier child! There are loads of different kinds. Ours has a hard base and converts into a double buggy. But it doesn't fold nice and flat like some do. Not sure of the make. Dh did the research and we bought it off ebay. They can be v.v pricey, but ours was only £50 (second hand). It's fab, and makes life much easier I think.

Yes I had a quick look on the internet and eBay. Don't want to pay hundreds - don't need a buggy option as they both walk most places. It is just that two school runs equals 6 miles per day and it is a bit much! Can you find out the make/model for me please? Just want something safe really as the road is fairly busy but there is a wide pavement too.

There was a thread on this a couple of weeks ago, I'll see if I can find it. zebrabra was really helpful...

I've just started using one, fifty pounds second hand, it's great! I use it to take my DD 3yrs to pre school with DS 9 months. Can't remember the make but was originally bought in Germany. We live on a military base where the road is quiet (and you know most people that drive past you!) not sure I would use in heavy traffic either. Children feel a bit vunerable back there!

I am a bit upset I told Dh of my plan to get a bike antrailer and he laughed. Then I told my mum and she thought I was joking!!!

cece, I have a Spokey Joe and I love it! Bit of a squeeze for ds's (3 and 17mths but they are big lads). I have a bike seat and a trailer which I prefer to the 2 of them in the trailer tbh. I get a bit miffed when I can't get through alleyway shortcuts though because of the bollards being too close together. All the extra exercise is great for toning up.

cece · 28/04/2006 22:51

Yes I need to tone up hence the laughter I guess! I don't do exercise really! My only concern is that they might be too big/heavy... DD is 5 and DS is a big 2 an dhalf so between them about 40 kilos. This seems ot be the upper limit for the trailers. So how much use would I get out of it before they get too big,....?
