have 2 prams, want another one; am I unreasonable?

Hello.
I have a graco (old) and I have an urban detour twin (new - gift from Mum). I am going to travel soon with toddler and baby. Would like to buy a maclaren twin stroller (only 119 from kiddicare). Am I unreasonable, as DH says? It really angers me that whatever he wants to buy is a necessity and what I want is impossible.

Could you sell an old one and buy the maclaren second hand to keep everyone happy? Three prams is a bit much, but then again I did the same so can't talk.
Had ds1's graco, which was a pile of sh*t but can't part with yet for sentimental reasons. Had new Cosatto pram for ds2 as the Graco had packed up, then got a second hand Urban Detour as the pram was rubbish on stony paths and grass. Also had 2 cheap strollers from Argos for my mum's and MIL's car boots, but kept borrowing them when I fancied a change.
So, yes, it is unreasonable, but it just has to be done.

NO - not unreasonable at all - by the time I had done GS had six. We couldn't afford any more than one when our kids were small, so I lived out my spending fantasies with GS. Grin

hi, it's not just about another pram of course. it's the principle of it; i stay at home, so he decides what the money gets spent on. am tired of this!

Yes.

I don't want any of the damn things I want another ring sling instead

joash · 25/04/2006 00:03

go for it - DH would always chunter about the cost so I'd just do it anyway and DH used to enjoy having a choice of which one to use (saddo really) Smile

bellefleur, don't get a double buggy (hideous spawn of the devil things) get a buggy board and a sling, unless yr toddler is well under 2....

BadHair · 25/04/2006 00:16

Oh yes, I forgot that I did have a double pushchair too. You can justify it by buying it second hand then selling it on for the same price - they really hold their value. In fact, I'd recommend buying doubles second hand rather than new unless you have twins, as with children of different ages you only use them for such a short time.
FWIW I bought a side-by-side for £35 and sold it on for £40 - the only financially astute thing I've ever done!
Go for it.

Skribble · 25/04/2006 00:29

I had three, a silvercross coach built, a cosy pushchair and an lightweight buggy for the bus.

To be fair the silvercross only cost me £5 from the charity shop and was used for daytime naps too.

I suppose it depends on how old the toddler is, how much walking you will do on holiday and how mush use you will get out of it.

BelleFleur · 25/04/2006 00:49

thanks. what is a 'ring sling'?

OMG she doesn't know what a ring sling is! Get her girls!!!!!!!

Sort like a pouch to carry your baby/toddler around in, it has a simple ring mechanism for pulling the fabric tighter or looser (they look sort of like the type of thing you might see African women wearing with their babies in)

BF, go for it..! We need to liberate (is that the right word..?) those of us who feel the need for a new pram or pushchair but get held back by our dp/dh..Grin.

DH made me feel bad when I bought our 3rd pram (dd is only 11 months Blush) BUT I remind him that others are alot worse than me..Just take a look at mn..! Grin

I have to come out and admit we have 5. I must give it up. One is a double though. One is the chassis for a carrycot pram (silver cross) ... OK I wont bore you any more. I have a bad back and need to make life easier.

sansouci · 25/04/2006 22:16

Ha-ha! Some things never change. My first MN post was about obsessive collection of pushchairs! I couldn't stop. I finally settled on(after 5 years of searching for The Perfect Stroller) a Maclaren. Great for travel. Looks good, lightweight, compact. I had tried lots of Gracos but theyre quite clumsy & bulky, though good value for money.
