Baby Monitors

Does anyone have any advice about which baby monitor to buy? I have a feeling I am going to be fairly paranoid and was wondering about getting one with a sensor mat, but don't know which one to go for, or whether there are some that just generally known as being better than others?

We use a Tomy walkabout classic which also has a visual display . It's probably a three years old now but does the business

i have a lindam digital one, it was a gift from dh's workmates when we had dd1. works ok and never really thought about getting a sensor mat, I don't think they're recommended unless there's a specific problem.

I too was paranoid and after the second night home with dd we bought the Johnson & Johnson monitor with sensor pad. Best £100 we ever spent, totally worth it for the reassuring beeps! They don't manufacture it anymore, I think there may have been a problem with interference but the Tomee Tipee one on mothercare web site looks very similar. Still using mine 4yrs on for ds never had any problems but still paranoid!

I'd definitely recommend a digital model and I found that room temperature display was useful.

I never went for a sensor mat as I thought it'd make me even more paranoid.

i'd go with hula
someone gave us a normal one and it broke within a fe3w months
bought the same and hula and it is fab
a freind bought a sensor mat as her baby was prem and she wanted the extra reassurance

HI catkin, don't know if it's too late to chip in but we got the new sensor one from tommee tippee (was reduced to 79.99 in boots). It's called Reassurance 8. By far best thing we've bought. The little flashing green light that tells me he's breathing wherever I am in the house is SO reassuring (I know, I'm prob much too paranoid), the sound quality is great and it's not too fiddly. We've even taken it travelling around to relatives and not been daunted by having to set it up somewhere new - it's not too bulky either. Has a temperature display on the portable unit and a nightlight on the baby (nursery) unit and works on mains or battery (though batteries last a miniscule amount of time). We used it without the sensor for his first month or so and it works fine that way too.

Thanks for that, I have decided that I am going to head out this weekend and get the monitor and the Tommee Tippee one that you mention Sqirmyworm looks really good .... I just know I am going to be a bit paranoid and will need the reassurance.
