The window in DD's bedroom in my new house is a HUGE 181 inches wide Shock. Where the bloody hell do I find a suitable pole ? The only ones I've found so far have been a max of 400cm, I need 450cm+.

have you tried John Lewis?

AllieBongo · 20/04/2006 18:33

My sis had this problem. A local metal fabricator made one to measure... If you aren't in a massive rush

NomDePlume · 20/04/2006 18:33

No, but I will....

Oh blimey, these windows are going to bankrupt me Sad. We have the same sized window in the living room, but I'm going to live with it for a bit before I decide what to put up at that one. DD's curtains need to go up on the day we move in.....

How about \link{http://www.tapestriesdirect.co.uk/acatalog/POLES_AND_TRACKS.html\made to measure} ones?

serenity · 20/04/2006 18:39

You can join the IKEA extendable ones together, so even though the biggest ones are only 385cm, if you get two of the mid size ones it'll be fine. I had someone in with the same problem last week.

NomDePlume · 20/04/2006 18:40

Serenity, will that work with the bay though ? or will it just give me a very long straight pole ?

But I've just read it again - do you need a 4.5m straight pole or you've got bay windows with a total of 4.5 m?

serenity · 20/04/2006 18:42

Xpost - what angle is your bay window?

NomDePlume · 20/04/2006 18:42

My bay is a total of just over 4.5m

I have no idea ! I've seen poles with bendy ends, which look pretty good, but they don;t make them long enough.

Got to go and do dinner, but just in case - there are Index corners which are 90degrees, although I've had customers tell me that they've bent them to the right angle quite easily.

Normally I recommend the plastic ones you can bend. MIL has them in her bay window, but DH can't remember where they are from or what they are called! I think they're from Homebase though.

NomDePlume · 20/04/2006 18:46

Thanks Smile. The corners are a pretty gentle angle from I what I can remember, it's not a box bay

You'd use three poles - long one for the middle, two short for the ends.

The other option is to not have a continuous pole, just have three separate poles - dependa what you wanted to do with the curtains really although to get curtains to fit that width will be pricey anyway ( I advise people to sew two pairs together)

serenity · 20/04/2006 18:52

Smile Can you tell that I spend most of my time at work with people trying to fit bay windows cheaply!

If you find anything good, post it 'cos then I've got somewhere to send them to if we can't sort it!

NomDePlume · 21/04/2006 18:05

Lol, serenity. I went into the place I bought my curtain fabric today to ask about poles. Apparently it's going to be v steep, so I'm now looking at track, rather than poles.

It's probably too late now, but for future reference please see www.blacksmithcollection.com. We've been supplying bay poles for over twelve years and make them to measure using measurements you can take at home quite easily. We do black and stainless steel. Prices start from £110 for a 2 bend bay with up to 2m of pole, 20 passing rings, 5 brackets and 2 finials. We also do long poles, a stainless DIY bay pole system (award winning), drapery arms and accessories.
