Booster seat with high back for 7 year old? I need a recommendation

I've seen the Mumsnet top 10.

Does anyone's 7 year old fit comfortably in a high back booster?

When DD falls asleep in the car sitting on the booster seat she ends up laying across the seat and I have to sit in the middle to stop it as of course it's dangerous not to be upright!

So, are the high back's claustrophobic round the head and neck area for older kids?

We're driving to Scotland soon so need to get a better booster seat. tips please....

We have the Britax Kid for our (big) 6.5yo ds1 and it's excellent.
He used to loll over if he slept in the car (on late night drives) but no more. He thinks its better too, not claustrophobic at all.

ds is in a Maxi Cosi Rodi and has been since he was 4. He's now 8 and there are several more notches to make the head rest higher still. his was an older style so a bit less enclosed around the head.

the Britax highliner is great and is suitable (and recoomended) to be used with the back rest right up until 11 years / 36kg

I cant recommend it highly enough (and nor can the ehich magazine) they also recommed the maxi cosi rodi and the britax kids by the way as well

Do NOT go for the graco one that looks similar... it does sooooo badly in independant crash tests

Graco now have a newer model of the badly-performing one, with more side protection.

NannyL · 11/04/2006 19:28

Given how awfully the graco has done i would not trust the better one until ive seen independant crash tests on it...

given that they must know how awful there other lower range one is why do they risk childrens lives and sell it??? Angry

Parenst should not have to read crash reports to find out which seats are worth sitting in if theres a crash Angry and staff in mothercare will lie and tell you they are all as safe when obviously they are not!!!!

Well, we've been to Halfords and DD doesn't fit in the Britax Highliner - she is seven, normal size seven, and she can't put her arms down by her sides in it. Shame because the head part of it would do the trick completely to support her when she's asleep but the sides are too narrow.

The search continues....

where can you see the results of these tests?

Went to Mothercare today to try out some more high back boosters. They have one called a Milan which is pretty big and DD was actually comfortable in it and could put her arms down by her sides. The only problem is that it only comes in pink and I don't want a pink one!

Asked the assistant and she said "oh that blue one's the same" which was called something completely different and was alot narrower in the back and on the seat itself. She tried to convince me it was the same and any fool could see it was smaller. We asked someone else who confirmed the Milan only comes in pink. We left the shop without it and totally PO'd with Mothercare and that shop assistant who didn't know diddly and couldn't be bothered to find out.

And just been on the Mothercare website and they DO make the Milan in another colour - a dark grey.

So they don't know what they're talking about.
