I love my hugabub - DS is only 6 weeks old.

So far my longest stint has been about 2 1/2- 3 hours wearing it, and I haven't had any back ache or anything during that time (gotten a bit warm Wink).

I keep telling my mum how much I love it, and how much easier it is than a pushchair etc, and she keeps saying "Well its fine now while he's tiny" with a nice sceptical look....

I'm going with the theory of it is like weight training - the more I wear him, as he grows, my strength will just get used to it as the weight gain is gradual (like how carrying a toddler used to seem hard work, but now I can easily wander round with one on each hip).

Am I right, or is she?

I don't notice dd at six months old, I wear her for whole days at a time (11:30 to about 5:30 with a few breaks usually) it is like weight training :)

and once I got used to wearing dd and two year old ds I found that ok too!

So boo sucks to your mother!

FastasleepInABunnySuit · 09/04/2006 19:28

Annoyuing, the warmth innit!! I can't wear perfume as it annoys dd so end up plastering myself with deoderant as I get so sweaty.. always have a big wet patch on my back Blush

Flamesparrow · 09/04/2006 19:41

Grin I don't often wear perfume, so not too much of an issue - my friend does though and he always comes home with a head smelling like her!

I just seem to end up with a really sweaty cleavage Blush

Oh yeah me too, and she always shoves a sticky hand down it too... and then there's the patch of drool on my boob and the snot.... and the bits of parsnip... but they love it so much in there don't they! She barely makes a peep :) when she's awake she just grins like a loon!

busybusybee · 09/04/2006 19:48

Hi flamesparrow I think your mum is partly right partly wrong!

I carried dd almost all day long (including evenings!)until she was 16 weeks old. Now she is 22 months I carry her for up to an hour at a time - only very occaisionally for naps when visiting friends

TBH I love carrying her - but I also love the freedom a pushchair gives, Having a pushchair means no carrying her!!!!! A pushchair has a basket for all her stuff and my shopping!

Slings are great for short walks to the corner shop and around the house but I wouldnt dream of using one to go town shopping with now she is older!! I did when she was teeny tiny - but then ds had the pushchair with accompanying basket for goodies!

FastasleepInABunnySuit · 09/04/2006 19:54

I can't use the basket in my pram Sad so prefer a sling even now, I think it depends on your circumstance and what you're 'forced' into iyswim! I have to fold the pram to get onto buses so even though my back needs to be strong it's easier to carry both kids!

Flamesparrow · 09/04/2006 19:56

My main use is for walks on beach/dog walks with my mum, and at the moment round tescos because he's still too diddy for the trolleys with the plastic seats, and its not fun when DD is set free Wink. I use pushchair for round town stuff.

So he should be ok for some time....

I wear dd all the time and she's 24months.
go
I went to the Hobbycraft show the other day and she was in the Ergo for 4 hours on and off. No problems at all. Much safer and easier than trying to hold her hand or have her in a pushchair.

I also go for fairly long hikes with her on my back. I carry her when she's grumpy and I have a coochie sling for short trips.

Cristina7 · 09/04/2006 20:05

DD is 13 months old and I can still carry her without any probs. She's only 8.5 kg, though, so really light. I agree that carrying them a bit every day allows you to carry them for longer, you don't just suddenly land with an extra 10 kg on your back.

pupuce · 09/04/2006 20:08

Busybee- what sling are you using ? I find that with my hug a bub I don't carry the baby and am totally hadns free which i am not with a pushchair.

busybusybee · 09/04/2006 20:18

Pupuce its a huggababy - which I totally love, its really comfortable and I can carry her for ages etc. I do carry her hands free on one hip but she wouldnt nap there, and I just couldnt wear her and lug about the shopping and other gumpf.

How do other people manage to babywear older children and carry stuff - shopping for example,
Im intrigued!

Cristina7 · 09/04/2006 20:22

I don't do my shopping with just a sling. Frankly, i don't see the point in being that uncomfortable. I might use the buggy for the shopping and put DD in the sling (I always have one with me) but I don't set out to do any big shopping without the buggy.

pupuce · 09/04/2006 20:22

A hugababy is different to a hug a bub.... with a hug a bub you are totally hands free!
I carried a 20 months old for 2 hours and all my christmas shopping nota problem.
My kids don't nap in the hug a bub but my friend's DD does.

FastasleepInABunnySuit · 09/04/2006 20:59

I wish I had a hugabub I'm too skinny for my hugababy - it falls off when I put dd on my hip!! But we don't have the money.

matnanplus · 10/04/2006 18:17

You Smile, i have carried newborn thru to a 4yo in my No-Jo sling over the years and i find it much easier even when they are bigger than without, and I have dodgy back, hips and knees.

peaches27 · 10/04/2006 22:35

Dont know how you do it with a 4 y o and a bad back. You must be a lot younger than me!

Flamesparrow · 11/04/2006 08:35

You're not gonna get any sympathy for skinniness, so don't even try! EnvyGrin
