Sky + boxes for £99 and £1 installation

Just thought I would pass on a great offer from a website called moneysaving expert.co.uk.

Have a look at this
You need to scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on page 1 for the number and code to quote.

They ran out of these but now have some more back in.
Seems like a brilliant offer (if a bit of a cheat!), would love to take advantage of it if we had any spare cash this month!

Pie, specifically it was this comment that pissed me off:

"You have to have the stupid sky+ box plus the normal subsciption plus the installation (even if you already have sky) and THEN you have to £10 a month ON TOP OF your normal subscription. Can you say rip off "

"stupid Sky+ box" - why bother looking at this thread at all if you think they're stupid?!

"plus the installation" - yes, which as I mentioned, costs £1, not exactly a "rip-off"

"and THEN you have to pay £10 a month ON TOP OF your normal subscription" - if you'd have bothered to click on the link for Sky + that I put in to check out the facts before you posted, you would have seen that this is not the case either.

And "Can you say rip off " - that's just a patronising piss-take.

Actually yes I did look at the link and if you saw it then you would know that there are only 1500 boxes...so the MAJORITY of people will still have to pay £259 for the box and £99 for the installation. So, if you don't happen to be one of the first 1500 applying for this deal, coming around to your house to plug in a Sky+ box when you ALREADY have a connection, the £99 installation IS a rip off. At the moment, Sky has an offer for either £49 or £59 for installation which is still a rip off considering all they do is come around and swap your box.

All the boxes they are offering are refurbished, most of them are V1 which are the boxes notorious for breaking down (thus being refurbished).

And they'll waiver the £10 fee only if you already have the premium package. So, if you already don't have the premium package, you'll most likely take it to avoid the £10 fee, but the premium package will cost you £16ish a month to watch the same films day in and day out.

Whilst I agree £99 is a good deal for the set top box compared to buying new at Dixon's, you have to realise that is a refurbished model and one that is prone to breakdown and missing the start of programs. Since it has a faulty 'record' feature, one has to wonder why bother getting Sky+ in the first place, unless you are getting the V2.

And the comment 'rip off' wasn't at YOU, it was directed at Sky... I don't know why you are taking it personally.

To add:

And having a monthly fee that they graciously waiver is absurd considering that you are still receiving the SAME digital stream as you would with a 'normal' Sky subscription. So, how can they justify paying the £10 extra in the first place?

How can I not take it personally when I start the thread and comment that I think it "Seems like a brilliant offer", and then you call it a "rip-off" further up the thread?
I'd have to have the skin of a rhino not to!

And according to page 4 of the first link I put in (the one you said if I saw it I would know they only have so many at that offer price), they do still have some left, in fact someone has ordered one today.

In your first comment you weren't talking about the (full) price being a rip-off when the boxes had run out, or I would've agreed with you!
The offer the whole thread I started is referring to, is the £99 plus £1 installation, which actually ISN'T a rip-off.

This is getting complicated now, and frankly I can't be bothered debating the whole "you said/I said" issue anymore, so I'll sign off now.

If anyone decides to go for it, good luck, hopefully they'll still have some left.

Well I wish I'd seen this a coupleof months ago!! We got Sky+ at the beginning of Oct, and paid £200 for the box (or £199 + £1 installation). We were already susbribing to the premium package which meant there was no extra £10 a month (Ski stoped this on 1st Oct - previously it was an extra £10 a month for everyone). Sky can be seen as a rip-off, but we love it especially Sky + it is brilliant. I am not looking at thelink, and know nothing about refurb boxes, but shame it was 2 months too late!!
