Anyone know of a travel stairgate?

ds is 12mths and very active. We will be travelling over the summer and staying in a number of friends/families' houses. Very few if any of them will have stairgates ... he is like an escape artist already ... crawls round and over obstacles , so it will be a nightmare trying to watch him all the time.

Is there such a thing as a travel stairgate and has anyone used one? What's your experience?

I got a Babydan one from a local babyshop, I've seen them in jojobebemamen and Blooming Marvellous as well. About £30 I think.

It was a godsend on holiday but haven't used it since. The only problem was that it didn't open like a normal stairgate, it had to be removed altogether to get through it. We didn't mind putting up with that for a short time though.

That's the one!

thanks for that ... it looks ideal.

Anyone got any expeience using it? Does it work ... don't want to fork out 30 squid and find out it's useless.

When you say 'does it work' do you mean did it stop dd going upstairs? yes it did. She was about 15 mo at the time.

Thanks ProfYaffle ... removing it does sound like a pain, but I'm sure we can cope. Think it will drive the grandparents a bit batty as it sound fiddly but they would also rather see him safe.

Now I just have to figure out how to stop him from climbing onto coffee tables, the backs of sofas etc etc... (Lead weights round his ankles? :o)

It's lovely travelling around seeing family ... but this boy never stops!

Baby dan one is really easy to fit and remove tal(yes you have to take it right out, but it takes no time at all) We have used ours constantly for anout 2 years in our house (great cos you can move it from room to room..) Think kiddicare.com sell it...

We are using the Babydan one at home at the moment at one end of our hallway where the walls are paper-thin and won't hold a fixed stairgate.

It's a bit fiddly but fine once you get the hang of it. I have actually taken to stepping over it rather than putting it up and down every time - good for toning the bottom I think!! Smile

We sold our Safety First one on eBay last year and got back almost what we paid for it (from ebay in the first place!) so even if you only use it for a little while they are great!
