tell me about your E3

thinking of maybe getting an E3 and will use it as toddler and newborn. Not sure if i need it... toddler will be 3 when babe arrives. Anyone know what the weight limits are? Also, the hood looks really low if you have the toddler in the front seat...?
Have you had any problems with yours? can you reccommend it?

\link{https://secure.intellihost.co.nz/philandteds.com/framesetedub.htm\do you mean these??????}

IMHO I do NOT like the way the one at the bottom isa sooooo low to the ground and near to exhust fumes and puddles

Gem13 · 05/04/2006 22:10

I didn't like it and sold mine on. Baby too low and her seat didn't recline. She was in the coccon for a few months but then was too big for it but too little for the seat. DS (the older one) didn't have much room for his legs and he was under 2.

I was so excited about buying it but so fed up with it after a few months. I sold it to buy a double Mountain buggy. Friend did the same. I have 18 months between mine, she has 13 months.

I found it to be heavy lifting it in and out of the car too.

Could you carry the baby in a sling for a bit and then turf the 3 year old out for the baby to go in the buggy?

Flum · 05/04/2006 22:13

mmm, this interesting. have same dilemma and thinking of a Phil and Teds. My dd is only just 2 though. But she hardly ever goes in buggy, always walks everywhere. I only use it if going to be at airport for hours or out all day and she might want to kip.

Not sure if it is worth buying a buggy just for that.

spinach · 06/04/2006 20:51

i'm not worried about it being low down near fumes as we live in rural area and dont walk along busy main roads that often, otherwise that would bother me.

We do loads of walking and i cant expect 3 year old to cope with it everyday, and I dont wanna start driving everywhere instead.

I thought the baby goes in the front seat when old enough to be out of the coccoon, and that reclines doesnt it?

No way can I carry baby in a sling.

Ooooh i cant decide. Anyone else have an opinion? I dont wanna buy a double cos I wont use it for long, at least with an e3 it converts back to a single. also wanna sell my current single to raise some of the cash.

DD was 3 when ds was born so we got a seat2go instead of a double buggy. This allowed her to walk/stand/sit depending on what she felt like doing.

starlover · 06/04/2006 20:56

also the child in the back can reach the wheels I think.

surely you can't recline the front seat for the baby if you have a child in the back as well?

spinach · 06/04/2006 20:59

good point starlover.... thats a bit pointless then isnt it?

looks good idea chicago but not practical for us, we really do walk miles some days and i don't wanna be stooped over that when pushing!

moondog · 06/04/2006 21:11

Well I love my E3.
It has really served us and both our children well, and the little place at the back for the baby was so snug and safe and rocked him to sleep.
Highly recommended.

jenthehen · 06/04/2006 21:12

Spinach, I live in a rural area and found the E3 to be ideal for the following reasons:

Small town shops are smaller with narrow doorways and I found it really easy to manouvre

The pneumatic tyres are great for bumpy paths and country roads

We enjoy walking and I was able to push the E3 with one hand and still hold ds's hand walking along side when necessary and then when he got tired he could just hop in

I found it easy to fit in the boot and when ds was in pre-school I could take the E3 out just as a single

I was a bit concerned about the wheels being within reach but it was never a problem

There wasn't much room for storing shopping but I had the panniers and to be honest because we have to drive to shop at the supermarket The children would always go in the trolley anyway.

CHICagoMUM · 06/04/2006 21:15

Spinach I used to walk between 4-6 miles a day (lived in Chicago city centre, no car dd's nursery a good 20 mins walk away) without that I would have been stuffed.

tortoise · 06/04/2006 21:19

I had a seat to go too and its been great.i live about a mile from town/school/play school and was much easier than a double.How about 1 of \link{http://www.jojomamanbebe.co.uk/cgibin/priamlnk.cgi?CNO=1&MP=ITM^GIN200&CODE=A5524&SPCAT=IF&CAT=GBS61&TYPE=C&SHOP=\these?}

spinach · 06/04/2006 21:22

great idea, but cant see me getting on with that either. perhas i need to look at other doubles, but i dont wanna be lumbered with a double really

OP posts:
starlover · 06/04/2006 21:24

there is a 3 wheeler with a toddler seat that sits on the hood, facing you... but I can't for the life of me remember what make it is

spinach · 06/04/2006 21:52

can you tell me.....
when newborn is starting to sit up, ditch the cocoon thingy, and does smaller child sit in front or back?

OP posts:
PiccadillyCircus · 06/04/2006 21:53

Smaller child goes at the back.

spinach · 06/04/2006 21:57

so say at 6 months it goes in the back? the woman in the shop said the older child goes in the back.... but that would make it tip surely?

OP posts:
bobblehead · 07/04/2006 02:29

Don't have one myself but really want one if I ever manage to conceive #2Grin so when in Vancouver recently (everyone seemed to be using them there!) I stopped a lady and quizzed her on it. She put older child in back and said she had no problems with it tipping and older child understood not to touch the wheels. She loved hers.

Filyjonk · 07/04/2006 08:56

have had mine 1 year

It is already semi-knackered.

The shopping basket is held on by safety pins.

Having said that, was godsend at times.

Why the F can one not hire pushchairs? Especially doubles? Just for maybe 3 or 4 months?

Has never tipped on us-older ds goes in back.

If your toddler will be 3 there is another problem. They are b**ds to steer one handed, ie while holding your toddler's hand.

I have another solution, which I am going to try when I feel brave. Sling + those shopping bags on wheels that old ladies have.

geogteach · 07/04/2006 09:12

I love mine, my older DD nearly 3 regularly sits in the back. Not sure I would buy it when older one is already 3 though, when I got mine DS1 was 3 and I had DD 16 months who wasn't walking and newborn hence DS1 had no choice but to walk! Shopping basket is small and mine broke but they have improved the design and the replacement I got is much more sturdy (though no bigger). I found it easy to steer with one hand when I had newborn and 16 month old now they are nearly 3 and 18 months that is impossible. Hope this helps
