I haven't had much success with them so far. Has anyone found a particular type or make which works?

This thread is a little old now, but if you’ve landed here looking for a car sunshade, we’ve recently updated our best car sunshades for babies and children page with lots of great options, as tried and tested by Mumsnet users. We hope you find it useful. Flowers

DS started pulling them off from an early age so have no idea SORRY!!

MerlinsBeard · 05/04/2006 20:48

what do u mean by no success? they won't stick? or the children mess with them?

reiver · 05/04/2006 20:59

I find they're too small so are never in the right place to block out the sun. Solved it for a while by placing DD's carseat in the middle of the back seat but she's now far too heavy to lift across so is back by the window. Tried the film sunshade last year which you just roll onto the window and it clings in place but found it obscured my visibility at times.

we have these in Aus that fit right over the window and can allow you to have the window down - they are fab.

they are called window sox.

I am bumping this because the ones we bought are pathetic and always drop off.

We had some lovely ones 20+ years ago which rolled up and down and clipped over the top of the window so you didnt have to rely on the suckers. We are trying to find some like this again, but they were expensive even then.

They have that kind in Lidl sometimes for v little, but you have to look out for them in Specials so not much use if you want them now.

I seen those Windox Sox when we were in Oz and thought how much better they were than anything that I have seen in the UK. No idea if you can get them over here

Gingerbear · 07/04/2006 21:55

Gingerbear · 07/04/2006 21:56

Sorry, I too got fed up and bought DD sungoggles in the end.

I bought an expensive Shade a Babe - see
www.shade-a-babe.co.uk/acatalog/Universal_Single_Shade-a-Babe.html

for my pushchair and they are selling these for the car - has anyone tried these?

I can recommend baby banz sunglasses which have UV protection and they are brilliant as they fix around baby's forehead and are adjustable.Smile

eidsvold · 08/04/2006 10:27

baby banz or toddler banz are fab - had them for dd1 when we came to Aus - in fact ordered them online in Aus and got them sent to my mums.

Did a search and windowsox have a UK website

\link{http://www.windowsox.co.uk/\here}

if they do not stock one for your car - find a similar window shape and order those. That is what we did for our old car as we would have had to order and wait a while.... I simply ordered a similar shape and then shut it in the door.

Charliemouse · 08/04/2006 10:47

What a fantastic idea those windowsox are, eidsvold! Especially that you can open the window and get no bugs in (and I bet the mesh stops the wind blowing everything around in the car too).

Tempted to get some even though we have no small children any more Grin

eidsvold · 08/04/2006 10:58

they are sooo brilliant - our old car did not have air con and so it was fab to be able to have the windows down for ventilation during the hot aussie summer and still have the girls shaded.

I must miss out on things not going into Lidl, but one visit to the supermarket a week is enough for me and we like Sainsbury's grub.

Janh · 12/04/2006 13:46

Lidl isn't your normal supermarket experience, peaches.

I go about once a month, which is plenty!
