Stupid Marshmallow Maker

Has anyone else got one of these? Is it just me who thinks they are a real waste of time / money? Dds got one for Christmas. First we had to buy all the ingredients (not a "fully stocked store cupboard" sort of household" ). Then we had to buy 4 'D' batteries (enormous they are, and expensive). Next, prewash all the fiddly little components. Then put the minute amount of each ingredient into the tiny mixing bowl. Turn the mixing machine on and hold the button down for 5 minutes ("but my finger's hurting mum" ). Then faff around swapping mixer blades and leave to mix for 20 minutes (new batteries every time, I think). Leave the mixture to set, but make sure it's not "too firm" - without any indication from the instruction booklet of what consistency it should be. Turn the mixture onto greased baking paper, and spread. Of course, if you have left it too long, then it won't spread, just sit there looking at you in a big disgusting lump. Leave in the fridge for 2 HOURS FFS. That's 2 hours of "is it ready yet?". At the end of this long and painful process you will have about 4 marshmallows. That's if you spread them out. If you were unable to do this, you will have a lump of marshmallow that will satisfy your children for 5 minutes and then they will want to start the process all over again.
DON'T BUY IT WHATEVER YOU DO. HAVE OURS.

OOOOhhhhh yes one of these arrived in our house over christmas as well (pressie to DD from my sister). The batteries cost us about £6. The ingredients another £7 or £8 at a guess. All to make a lump of goo that neither DD or DS were slightly interested in eating. In fact they gave up completely during the 20mins mixing time - mum this is sooooooooo boring I think was the attitude. Although the ingredients will last quite a while I bet the batteries are nearly done for after 25 mins of pulsing and mixing. So at least £6 for 10p worth of marshmallows!!

Arrrrggggghhhhhh!!!!!!!

The popcorn one is ok, not much hassle at all, and a healthy nutritious treat

I got one of those hand-held frothers (for lattes, fluffy omelettes etc). As I take my coffee black and my omelette runny rather than fluffy it's staying in it's packing and going to my SIL next Christmas. It'll serve her right for the years of boring presents from her.

Oh my God can I relate to this. Thanks to the adverts I've heard no end of 'can I have a ready steady cook thing'.So come her birthday she gets the slush maker which is so badly designed it doesn't actually crush the ice which is all it does do.So off it goes back to woolworths, without receipt, who have only just changed their policy so no money back or exchange for something else can only exchange for another one which I didn't want.
Then xmas arrives and she gets an icecream maker. What a lot of faf it is,I'm dreading having to use the damn thing.

DS1 wanted the McDonald's McFlurry maker. Over my dead body!

Slinky · 06/01/2004 15:55

I saw a friend in town today queuing up in Woolworths to return the McFlurry maker. She was about to swap it for something from the Ready Steady Cook range, but I said "NOOOOOO - don't do it" DD1 was given the RSC Icecream maker last year - and it truly is awful! The ice-cream tastes disgusting plus you had to stir it for forever - DD1 got fed up and had arm-ache so DH and I were taking it in turns to stir it!

My friend didn't have a receipt but Woolworths said their new policy doesn't start until the end of the month - so she was offered the choice of swapping for another toy or vouchers.

aaaarrrrgggggg mc flurry maker.... donot buy.... saw it forever when first came out, bought it for ds ordered it and wen was delivered we were so excited, it was headache, ingredients cost alot, you got to send of for more of the special mixture too.... well it made a squiggle of ice cream and the sprinkles are just hundreds and thousands!!!

A waste of money and time. I also have one of those slush machines a load of c..., doesnt crush properly and makes small amount for big ache!!!

to get a blender and make Ice drinks or even a handheld blender that can crush ice.

as for ice cream maker, unless you gonna splash out and buy the machine with the frezer built on it as even grown up machines are a waste I have one in the back of my cuboard growing years of dust!! was gonna save for one but...... shops are easier!! lol
