just turf your kid out unless shehas a problem walking.

Twinkie1 · 03/04/2006 08:59

DD was out oof a pushchair by then but a lady at my DDs school pushes her youngest to school everyday and she at nursery - so she must be nearly 4 and the eldest one who is 6 sometimes jumps in on the way home - I ribbed her about it and she was very funny and defensive saying that it is a lobg way for her to walk - ITS SO NOT!!!

DD was out of pushchair by 3 but we did take one on holiday more for us than for her to let her sleep in it when we were out at night and so we could hang things on it!!

misdee · 03/04/2006 09:04

my dd2 has low muscle tone.falls a lot and i still make her walk. she is 3.5yrs old.

ernest · 03/04/2006 09:39

I wouldn't be buying a new pushchair for your 3 & a half year old. Next time, why don't you take it over the rough field, let it fall apart then your dd can clearly see it's been laid to rest & then she'll have no choice.

Tommy · 03/04/2006 09:44

good idea ernest.
There are plenty of children at my DS1's nursery who are pushed (all of them past 3 and some well past 4). I think a lot of the time, it is pure habit. I had a buggy board for DS1 and when DS2 got too big for the pram it was on I just put them both in the loft and DS1 has to walk everywhere - he's never really comlained about it too much although I do use the bus now more if I'm going further.

threebob · 03/04/2006 09:59

Ds is just 3 and I can't remember the last time he went in the pushchair - probably at around 2.5. I haven't sold his Mountain Buggy in case he breaks his leg and needs to be pushed - could your dd use a trike with a handle instead.

hulababy · 03/04/2006 10:01

DD is almost 4 and hasn't used her buggy for well over a year now, other than on holidays when we do take it with us.

Clayhead · 03/04/2006 10:11

My dd is 4 and regularly uses her buggy. I often walk 5-6 miles a day and she can't manage that yet so she hops in and out and swaps with ds (2). I don't have a problem with it personally.

CarlyP · 03/04/2006 10:15

my son is 2.4 and hasnt used a pushchair since 2.1yrs. we have a buggy board if he gets tired, but will walk around shops, to pre-school....to take dog out etc. my 16mth old is in a pushchair buts wants to walk around like his brother, so i let him and leave the buggy at home if its just a short walk.

id say she is jsut in it out of habit. dump the buggy!

SparklyGothKat · 03/04/2006 10:16

My Dd2 is 4 and hasn't used a buggy since march 2004. I only know the date because she last used one on a holiday. My DD1 is 5 and sometimes uses her SN buggy if we are doing a lot of walking. I wouldn't buy another buggy for a 3.5 year old.

ghosty · 03/04/2006 10:42

I conveniently kept 'forgetting' the buggy when DS was nearly 3. We took it on holiday with us when he was 3 and a bit (for sleeping in when waiting at airports etc) but after that holiday I stopped using it.
If you take it out with you then your DD will want to go in it won't she? If you don't have it then she can't ...

nutcracker · 03/04/2006 10:43

My Ds is 3.4 and he still uses a buggy when we go shopping and occasionally on the way home from nursery.

He will walk but hasn't quite got the hang of not running off yet.

sandyballs · 03/04/2006 10:44

At least two of the mum's with kids in my DD's reception class collect their children in buggies. I was shocked - these kids must be 5 or almost 5.

EvesMama · 03/04/2006 10:47

my dd is 3 next month and we do have a nice pushchair, but i only take it if we've going shopping all day or on holiday other wise the lazty daisy would be in it all the time!
if its not there they cant use it

mollycodle · 03/04/2006 11:29

I've taken ds on holiday 3 times now and he's just walked, I find pushchairs a PITA anyway and even more so on holiday. I do have a hipseat, which I find marvellous when he does run out of steam, and it's good exercise to carry around an extra 14kg for a bit.

blueteddy · 03/04/2006 20:06

My DS2 is just 3 & I still use a buggy for him as I find it far easier. Tantrums are far more likely when he is walking & as I do not drive, he would get very tired with the amount of walking I tend to do!
I am hoping to have ditched the buggy by his 4th birthday though!

ecofreak · 03/04/2006 20:35

I used the buggy until well past 4 with mine. I know a boy of 5 who still went in one. Similar experiences to Clayhead.

My friend is still wheeling her 4.5 year old homw from school every evening - he is so shattered its not far to walk but he wouldn't make it although I have suggested she take his scooter to come home on - obviously that wont work on you all terrain walks though.....

mumeeee · 06/04/2006 11:26

I used the pushchiair to take mt youngest to school until she was 5. We lived about 15 mins walk from the school and she couldn't keep up with her sisters. So it was easier to use the pushchair.

LizP · 06/04/2006 20:26

Why is a push chair home from school worse than a car ? I make ds1 (6) and ds2 (4) walk to school - about 30 mins - but pick them up in a car because know they will be really tired,it is uphill and we would have no time to do anything else after school. If I stuck them in a buggy I could be home in about 30 mins.
