My washing machine appears to be reaching the end of its useful life

What brand of washing machine would you recommend?
Where did you buy from?

Cheers

I'm happy with my Bosch Max. Was about £550 7 yrs ago, going strong (touch wood)

quelsouci · 02/04/2006 21:08

Yeah, they're a bit pricey but last forever & wash wonderfully. Can you buy one on credit? Or monthly payments? Well worth the trouble imo.

magicfarawaytree · 02/04/2006 21:24

the new 9kg bosch good reviews but check out the price Shock£900 if i remember correctly. def get one with a delay start, cant live without mine - mean you can load, set and go which is great if you are need to put washing whilst baths etc of dishwasher is going.

magicfarawaytree · 02/04/2006 21:26

got much current washing machine ( brand new at the time) from one of those place that they send new items to that have been damaged in delivery. honestly cant tell what happened not obviously visible - but massively cheaper than a new from shop.

Bugsy2 · 02/04/2006 21:43

I've got a John Lewis own brand one & I'm really pleased with it.

sanchpanch · 02/04/2006 21:47

i have got a Zanussi, 6 years old and going well

mrsdarcy · 02/04/2006 21:52

I have a Bosch Maxx and am very pleased with it.

louli · 02/04/2006 21:54

miele, the basic model is about £499. very quiet

Yorkiegirl · 02/04/2006 21:58

I've got a hotpoint.
And its shite
Don't go there.

SnowBoo · 02/04/2006 22:00

My mum has a Miele. Excellent. I had an Indeshit washer dryer. Had to get the repairman round once/twice a month. Steer clear!

Piggiesmum · 02/04/2006 22:01

I have a Miele too, it was one of the cheapest ones but still about £450-£500, can't remember exactly.

I found a really useful site when i was looking for a new one. I think it was this one although I'm not 100% sure cos the layout looks abit different.

I got a more basic Miele for about £500. Love it. I have only had it for less than 2 years but if it broke tomorrow I would get another one. They were so confident with it lasting that they gave me 4 years free warranty. My sister's Miele lasted for 9 years (3 kids, one in cloth). I think bosch are the same company if you wanted a cheaper one.

nooka · 02/04/2006 22:29

We've always had Whirlpool's they come with a very long part guarantee, so they are built to last, and they have really good programmes (like a basic wash that cleans in about 30mins). Having said that the current one isn't so good, so we are leaving it behind when we move.

redshoes · 03/04/2006 21:25

I've got a Zanussi, which I bought as it was recommended by Good Housekeeping. It has been very good, despite a good thrashing (4 dc's)!

TheBlonde · 04/04/2006 22:38

The old machine is definitely not right. It is so loud when spinning that you can't hear the TV in the next room
My Dad reckons the bearings have gone and I should just ditch it

Any suggestions for shops?

Currys website is rubbish
JL only have a few

we got an AEG from jl and it's fab

peaches27 · 04/04/2006 22:46

If you dont want to spend a fortune, try a Whirlpool. I find it very good, I darent type had it years and its never let me down dare I?

Jbck · 05/04/2006 08:56

Another vote for Zanussi, DH & his flat mate got a 5 year old second hand one which did another 7 years - on almost every day. Had it repaired once and it was still going strong when DH left his flat. Only reason we got a new one was because it was brown & cream & I refused to have it in a new house. We bought another Zanussi then & 6 yrs later used every day (sometimes several times) it's great. Obviously I'll be on next week looking for cheapest Zanussi stockists Grin

TheBlonde · 19/04/2006 09:53

Aarrgh finally decided on a Bosch but it is out of stock with the manufacturer so could be 6 weeks!!! Shock

Tinker · 19/04/2006 09:54

Oh, get a Miele or AEG then. All equally good.

rummum · 19/04/2006 10:09

I recently brought a new zanussi and I'm really pleased with it... go for a big drum and fast spin

secur · 19/04/2006 10:11

My aunt has a Miele, think they are quite pricey but she raves about how good it is. I ti s quite old now and she has been known to fill it by getting her foot behind the washing to jam it in, but it has survived without a single repair call all this time!
